There are such things as propelling pencils with caps...

I'll warm me with your echoes

Re: Pen Cap, Lid or Top?
I used to chew the top of pens until I did something similar. I was in biology class, bored one afternoon and was chewing the top of a pen when I got a sudden taste of this awful liquid. I'd absentmindedly chewed this pen up so much there was a hole in it and somehow I'd made the ink shoot up and swallowed it . I was scared stiff as I'd heard you can die from ink poisoning but I didn't dare ask the teacher if I could get a cup of water incase she asked why! It put me off chewing the base for life but I've never broken the habit of chewing the lid once it's put on the base. Some in my class would chew the lid on its own through a lesson, I couldn't do that for fear of choking on it .floragord wrote:I used to, but since I had violet scented fountain pen ink at the time discovered I was regularly washing off a purple tinge from round my mouth, put me off for life... and now I just tap a biro between my teeth occasionally while concentrating on reading and writing!IceMaiden wrote:I call it a lid or a top. Rob, that looks more like a clutch pencil as it has a 'button' at the top.

I always call it a lid.
"Where's the lid of my pen gone?" is something I am always saying.

Maybe the photo isn't a propelling pencil, Nigel. I see what you mean.
Who would have thought that such a simple thing would cause such problems?! It seems that the propelling pencil I once had (and now can't find!!) was the only propelling pencil in existence with a cap!! I had presumed they were much more common than they apparently are, and now I am stuck with a propelling pencil with a cap in my story that is difficult to alter.

This one has a lid/cap/top/thing http://g02.s.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1mTYFHpXX ... Pencil.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But dare I begin a debate on propelling pencil vs mechanical pencil??

Yes - thank you! That's very similar to the one I had! i was reading up on propelling pencils, and I believe 'mechanical pencil' is just another name for them - supposedly from America.Fiona1986 wrote:This one has a lid/cap/top/thing http://g02.s.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1mTYFHpXX ... Only part of the link is highlighted so it isn't clickable. I tried to correct it but I think the letter ü causes problems for some reason. Never mind - just copy and paste the link into your browser! Anita

Oh dear, sorry I didn't realise that it hadn't worked or I'd have edited it straight away
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Montblanc-167- ... B001CC1Q8U" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've changed it for a normal 'u' to see if it works now.
Edit: it does, at least on my browser, must have been the ü that did it!
