Colin Dexter (1930 - 2017)
Really sad to hear that Colin Dexter has passed away aged 86.
His books were extremely well written and introduced me to words in the English language I did not know even existed.
I love his book 'The Way Through The Woods' and the short story 'Morse's Greatest Mystery' is very very moving indeed.
I corresponded with him a number of times over the years and always found him to be a very pleasant, erudite congenial man.R.I.P

Re: Colin Dexter (1930 - 2017)
I agree. I enjoyed reading his book especially The Silent World of Nicholas Quin. I rank that book among the best i.e. The Green Danger by Christianna Brand, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie, He Who Whispers by John Dickson Carr, The Greek Coffin Mystery by Ellery Queen, The Singing Shroud by Ngaio Marsh, Murder A la Mode by Patricia Moyes, A Mind To Murder by P. D. James, The Circle by Peter Lovesey, The Beast Must Die by Nicholas Blake, Blunt Instrument by Georgetter Heyer and Suicide Excepted by Cyril Hare to name a few. These novels together with Nicholas Quin are among the best of detective mystery stories written by the first class British mystery writers except for Ellery Queen and John Dickson Carr(US) and Ngaio Marsh(New Zealand).
He was an unassuming man. A very nice person overall. I am a member of various mysteries groups. Some members in those groups are connoisseurs of mystery and published mystery writers. All of them have said almost the same thing about Colin Dexter. "A very nice chap and soft-spoken" unlike his fiction character Inspector Morse.
A very sad day for mystery enthusiasts community.

Sad to hear of Colin Dexter's passing, we're huge Morse fans both as regards the books and John Thaw/
Kevin Whateley's performances in the TV series in which Colin Dexter always played a cameo role. RIP.

RIP Colin Dexter. I actually read very few of his books but always loved Morse on TV.

Blimey! I'm glad you pointed that out to me, Eddie! Oh dear, no wonder I didn't see anything on the news or in the papers about it!! I thought he passed away today! I usually look at dates, but I must've overlooked it this time! Doh!

It’s an easy mistake to make, Number 6. I make similar mistakes all the time, and put it down to my age.

Apologies,number 6.
I think I was the one that confused you by replying to a post sixret made in this thread earlier.
Sorry about that!

Re: Colin Dexter (1930 - 2017)
Thanks Pete & Eddie. It's my mistake! I can't remember Colin passing last year, & I genuinely thought he'd only just passed. I really should've looked at the dates of the posts. No ones fault but mine! Anyway, better late than never, cos I didn't post a condolence last year!
