You'd've thought she'd've called George (her beloved cat) Smugs. Great name for a cat!

I must remember that if I ever get another cat!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I never thought of that!
I'm looking at him now while he's eating his breakfast and to me he just looks like a George, I've never been able to envisage him with any other name; as soon as I found him I thought he looked like a George.
I think if I was going to call a cat Smugs, I'd call him Bill Smugs

Re: A new Blyton fan
I have always preferred a non-human (for want of a better term) name for a pet. There are many Blyton-names from which to choose. I suggested that Julie called her new puppy Scamper - one of my favourite pet names, but the mutt was already named 'Rosie'. As she probably recognised her name, i can understand why she remained 'Rosie'. I couldn't call a pet David or Tony - or even Anita! Names we have used in the past have included Buster(labrador), Kiki (cockatiel), Beaky, Pepi (budgies), Goldilocks Banana (canary) and Tiger, Smudge, Twink, Suki, Suba, Chula (cats).

Yes, as Nigel says, our pet came with her name, as we rehomed her. Scamper to me though, Nigel, is a boys name, and Rosie is a girl.
Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.

None of which are intended as suggestions for Fiona's baby, I presume...?Moonraker wrote:I have always preferred a non-human (for want of a better term) name for a pet. Oh I dunno, Goldilocks banana sounds good to me.

Re: A new Blyton fan
After a truly awful week - probably the worst I've ever had - we got some test results that thankfully said our baby was OK. We were also able to find out that the baby is a boy! Most people we have told so far have suggested Julian as a name, I can't imagine why .
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Sorry to hear about your awful time, Fiona, but so glad to hear the baby is OK. Hope things continue to get better and you have an easier time of it up until the big day and beyond.
Well, better than Fatty. (I would still vote for Andy myself. Or possibly Bill, as in Smugs. )Fiona1986 wrote:We were also able to find out that the baby is a boy! Most people we have told so far have suggested Julian as a name, I can't imagine why .

Glad that everything is alright, Fiona!
Very few people in India get the reason behind naming my dog Scamper, I mostly see raised eyebrows but there is the occasional exclamation of 'Oh! So you're a Blyton fan then!' However he has never failed to live up to his name, even now that he's 4!
