Re: Football
It looks like Liverpool may have done their local rivals, Everton, a favour tonight in their effort to escape relegation, with a 3-0 win at relegation co-strugglers Leicester City. Everton's fate is surely now in their own hands. Two wins in the last two games of the season and they survive in the Premiership.

Re: Football
It seems Monique will be able to enjoy two more matches of the VFB this season, two former German champions will be playing against each other, both of them with experience in relegation games.

Liverpool Women 0 - 1 Manchester United Women
I've just been watching the woman's teams Man United v Liverpool.
I must say it was far more enjoyable and better for my blood pressure than watching my own team Everton.

Re: Football
Not exactly the scenario I was hoping for last week, but if we feel bad I wonder how Dortmund 'fans must be feeling? I was quite sure they would be champions. Is it definite that VfB will meet HSV in the relegation? We had hoped that Heidenheim (another "local" team) would make it to the relegation instead of HSV and oddly enough in such a scenario my husband and I would be supporting Heidenheim instead of VfB (needless to say we have not told our son that, as he is a very staunch VfB 'fan and would probably have a fit!!!). Since we became disappointed with the inconsistency of VfB we have attended a few of Heidenheim's match and also some of Stuttgarter Kicker's matches!!!

I think Stuttgart will play against either Heidenheim or Hamburger SV in the play off.

Re: Football
My wrong - I had assumed the Zweite Bundesliga also had had their matches at the same time as the Bundesliga, but they're playing today.

Heidenheim have just won promotion to the Bundesliga, so hopefully they will do as well as Union Berlin. Meanwhile, VfB will indeed face Hamburg (HSV) in the relegation.

Everton have survived in the English Premier League after beating Bournemouth 1-0.

Re: Football
For me it seems to be that you were in a very comfortable situation, Pete. Either Everton stays for sure in the Premier league which is what you wanted I suppose, or you would have won money if they had had to play in the relegation matches.
But it reminds me how opportunistic football fans can be. Some years ago 1FC Kaiserslautern went up to the Bundesliga and the fans were singing "Never again 2. Liga".
Last year (and the previous year(s) ) Kaiserslautern was playing in the 3. Liga and it was completely in their hands to make the wish of their fans come true. But what happened? They went up to 2. Liga again, and the fans were celebrating it.
