Blue Peter
Re: Blue Peter
I was watching Antiques Roadshow yesterday and it was lovely to see Peter Purvis and Anthia Turner talking about Blue Peter in the early days, she has not aged at all, poor old Peter however has

Re: Blue Peter
Peter probably hasn't had botox (and other things) like Anthea and he's about 20 years older as well.

Re: Blue Peter
I saw Peter Purves at Crufts a couple of weeks ago and he barely looked any different to the picture I took of him there in 2001! I'd say he's ageing very well .

Re: Blue Peter
I never saw this specific episode at the time, but I've just watched footage of John Noakes ascending Nelson's Column in 1977. No hard hat, no high-vis, and he's not even tethered on until he gets to the top. Just a chap dressed like someone about to go fishing cheerfully climbing up a series of rackety vertical ladders (as well as that terrifying BEYOND the vertical overhang beneath the upper plinth).
What a legend!

I vividly remember watching that at the time it was broadcast. John Noakes was a brilliant presenter.

Yes, I remember watching John Noakes climbing Nelson's Column vividly! Those were the days when Blue Peter ruled BBC children's TV! The first Blue Peter team I remember were John Noakes, Peter Purves and Lesley Judd.

I remember that episode too. I watched Blue Peter with my children and remember Valerie Singleton being a presenter.

Re: Blue Peter
Ah someone started a thread about my favourite programme! I mean there's hardly been a period I missed it.
I still religiously watch it these days on CBBC on thursday except for this week's Sport Relief Special which is on Friday followed by Crackajack (which is also watched) as I've always found to be to a fun accessible magazine type show covering things in and around the world of childhood as much as that has altered with more sophisticated technology in children's lives because when you listen and look at how they react, they're still like you were.
It's a bit like when we all know the world of E.B.'s characters is different nontheless today's children still enjoy and relate to them and today's show is in spirit very much like it was, adventures, challenges, lots of direct interaction with letters and of course the Badges plus performances and the 'makes'.
