Just the kind of presents I would like, Julie. I got a jumper, scarf, plenty of socks and DVDs but no books
- I will have to visit Alton in the New Year. I do like Christmas pudding - still remember finding silver sixpennies in them when we were young.

Q. What did you all get for Christmas?

A. Constant heartburn, a liver like foie gras, and a lot of very nice stuff that I already knew was coming. Surprises from friends included an Edwardian volume of Punch Magazine extracts and a print by a local artist.

It's been a nice 'green' Christmas here, dry and fairly bright. Ideal for going out on Boxing Day afternoon in a smart jacket instead of muffled up in a big coat and scarf. Had a reunion with three old school-friends so that was a pretty good present in itself.

Hope you all had a good one too. :)

Merged with an existing topic.

I hope my question is not too personal. What things did you get for Christmas presents?

Oh no! I'm just too pleased to share with you what I got.
Of course, I got five books! I'm so happy because I'm going to have a lot of reading to do!! :D Among them is War and Peace, The Girl Before (I couldn't stop and I've already finished it!), Sheridan le Fanu, The Crook of Gold and The Hobbit. How could I wish for more?
Then I got a little statute of the Sacred Hear of Jesus, a notebook and amazing stationery for school. :D

It’s great to know you received so many books, Maria Esther! :D

I have seen a War and Peace book. It is such a hefty book. I don’t have a courage to read it.

@Jolly Good Food' (the Enid Blyton cookery book!) - plus the Famous Five 1000 piece puzzle, and the 1950's Little Noddy Party Game. I also got a big book I wanted about the Warner Brothers film backlot, as well as some other books, some new pencil crayons as mine were awful, and the Famous Five colouring book, lol!

I also got the Jeremy Corbyn annual!!! And a diary, some sweets, some shortbread...etc etc. Nothing really big or amazing...I prefer to have books! Oh - and I bought 'The Blue Story Book' with dust wrapper for myself. :-D

When I saw the Jeremy Corbyn Annual in the shops I immediately wondered if you'd be getting one for Christmas, Rob!

We spread our gift-opening out over 2 days so aren't quite "there yet", but so far Enid Blyton's CHRISTMAS, looks a wonderful read!; Lapsang tea; lovely Christmas soaps scented with cinnamon and orange and much more; a gorgeous hamper of smoked goodies from Inverawe in Scotland, 'His and Her' bathrobes with our names embroidered on!, a most attractive "ship" pair of bookends where the books go between the two parts of a ship in full sail, a heavenly rose pink shawl with paisley design at either end and a delightful set of linen teatowels from Australia, just right for the Xmas glassware! Onwards and upwards after lunch, this is tough but someone has to shoulder it :D

I had money from most of my relatives but I also got a PetsAtHome voucher off one and a little portable radio and pocket torch off another. From my parents and brother I got chocolate, pyjamas, a beautifully soft pair of leather gloves, a set of saddle/pannier bags and books of course but I'll list those in the other thread. I also got an apron for work from one friend and a Dove gift set and box of Celebrations from another.

It's nice to receive of course, but it's nicer to give, especially when you're older and can be thankful for what someone has done for you. When you're little you can't do that, you're happy and excited with what you get but you can't appreciate it the same way because you don't know or aren't aware of the work that's put in. Now, I know the time and hours my parents have had to work to get things because I've had to do the same to get theirs. It gives you a new appreciation and gratitude and makes you feel quite humble knowing someone wants to do that for you. Yes it's wonderful to get presents from Father Christmas when you're younger but it's even more wonderful to be able to appreciate what somebody's done for you and do the same back when you're older.

I agree. I've always loved receiving gifts, but really do prefer to give people gifts instead, and to get them just what they wanted. It gives me a warm glow! :-)

  I hope you've managed to finish unwrapping your many presents by now.

Not a problem I have, although as I don't buy that many, it wouldn't seem fair if I got far more than I sent. One present less this year, as my husband and his brother agreed not to buy for each other any more. There were also a lot less presents under the tree this year as my two adult children really couldn't think of anything much they need/want so instead the tree held several envelops with their names on, containing money. Still we had fun opening the gifts that we were lucky enough to receive.

I got a milk frother, which I'm hoping to try out a bit later. :D

Believe me - if there was a book I knew you wanted and I had two of, I would probably pass it on to you!! :D

Even though I'm trying to sell them! ;-)

I got a custom made bust of my dog, which I absolutely adore. It's beautifully made and looks just like him. Next year at this time I'll be preparing to go to university, and won't see my dog for months on end, so I can take it with me. It's such a thoughtful present. I also got some clothes and a few other little knick knacks. :D
I also love giving gifts, as you all said. I'm not very good at arts and crafts, so DIY isn't my strongest point, but I still do the best I can, and there are loads of sales in the shops right about now, so I got a fair amount of good deals. I also gave my mom a poem written by me as a present, because I give both my parents one for their birthdays but I missed hers this year as we were traveling and I was facing a bit of a Writer's block. I knew she was unhappy that she didn't get one, so she loved it. :D
