Thanks Pete - that looks a bit like my book case (as in all the books jumbled up).

I haven't got a ladder in my library - maybe I should consider one, although I'm not sure I'd try swinging across on it.

I tried ice skating for the first time just over a week ago - it is still a little tender when I sit down, so I think I'm safest when I keep both feet firmly on the ground. ;)

Slightly belated Happy Birthday, Katharine.

I guess your Ice Skating is not quite in this class then, judging by your previous post. :D

The last time I went ice skating was in Altrincham, when I lived in Cheshire well over 30 years ago. I seem to remember having similar experiences as you. :D

Thank you. Sadly can't see the ice skating picture.

Ice skating is something I had the chance to try about 30 years ago, and didn't take the opportunity and slightly regretted ever since. So when visiting my son in Bath the other weekend and he said their annual rink had been installed, I decided not to let another chance slip through my fingers.

I'm not quite sure whether I was experiencing a mid-life crisis in making that decision, as I've never been any good on roller skates, so why I thought I'd be ok trying to balance on a thin piece of metal goodness only knows.

Standing in the changing area wasn't too bad, and I slowly made my way to the rink. I cautiously put one foot on the ice, then not quite sure what happened next as it was so quick. As the next thing I knew, I was landing rather heavily on my posterior and then tumbled backwards and bumped my head on the ice. Thankfully I was wearing a thick woolly hat which softened the blow. A couple of young blokes grabbed an arm each and hauled me to my feet and I shuffled off in embarrassment.

I then shuffled round the rink twice - took me an hour! Mostly clinging onto the hand rail, although I was attempting a few proper steps towards the end. An hour was quite long enough as my ankles were like jelly as I got (safely) off the ice and stumbled across the floor to a seat so I could remove the boots.

I'm really glad I went, but don't think I'll be pushing my luck by having another go, I count myself very fortunate to have escaped the experience with nothing worse than a slightly sore rear end, and possibly a dented pride. Thankfully, my husband who was taking photos of us on the ice had snapped me just as I was stepping onto the ice, but didn't capture my fall.

Well done for having a go Katharine.
Ice skating is not easy. I used to go every Saturday with my girlfriend in my teens, then undo all that healthy exercise by going to McDonalds afterwards!

I've only been ice-skating once and I ended up sprawled on the ice several times, Katharine!

Interesting that you had a caterpillar cake. I'd never noticed them in the past, but after they were in the news some months ago I started seeing them everywhere!

Ha ha - I've checked my original post and see that I didn't make a typo with the spelling of the gluten free cake, so not sure if someone hijacked my comment and turned it into glutton, or if it was a hilarious miscopy. Either way, it's very good.

Just for the record, the only way my cake was glutton free cake, was because I've had to share it with my family, so we've only eaten about half so far - if it was just up to me, there probably wouldn't be much more than a few crumbs left. ;)

Oh no, Katharine. I am sorry for my lame joke.
I am a gluten for the punishment of your choice now and I humbly accept my just desserts.. :D :D
