And of course a GA comes with much higher risks to the patient in general - but you couldn't expect a child of 5 or 6 to have a squint corrected without one.
Fiona, that might be the case for children, but are adults also getting upset, confused and hard to settle after anaethesia? Between 1966 and 2009 I had 7 surgeries under anesthesia, but only once in 2004 became sick to the point where I had to vomit (I take the vomiting part any time over the traumatizing part).

I've worked on adult wards but never with patients having eye surgery. It's not purely having the anaesthetic - the other 20 odd days of the month were other types of surgery and we didn't have to make special arrangements for those - it is some combination of eye surgery and general anaesthetic. I have seen the odd child having other types of surgery - major and minor - react very badly but those were isolated cases.

"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Hellllooooooo people! I'm so so happy to tell you that my exams are over, and my holidays have started! It all seems much like a dream, 4 months of holidays? Anyways, I have a loootttt of plans, and it finally seems like I'm free. Won't have to touch a textbook for four months! I remember some past exam, after which I had posted a big message with a lot of emoticons, exclamation marks, and capital letters. About 5 years ago. Well this is much bigger news, it's virtually the end of school, and I'm much more excited than I was then, but I guess people grow up, yeah? :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I went into Corfe today, and it was sad to see Viv's Ginger Pop shop being replaced by a gift/antique sort of shop. The new owner in there has taken over both sides of the shops - meaning one side which remained empty after the post office closed.

I did notice however on a shelf the Adult F.F books, and one man was picking them up and looking at them. I said to him, you do know that Enid Blyton didn't write those books, don't you? He said, no, who wrote them then, as it says Enid Blyton on the front. I said the author's name is inside the book and that Enid died in 1968, and they were a send up of the F.F. He said, oh I won't buy it then. I replied Good!

What a pity that Viv had to close the wonderful Ginger Pop Shop!

Well done, Julie! :-D

Seriously though - this is my main complaint about these books. Wait until they release 'Lesbian Lovers' by Enid Blyton, or 'Stoned Hippies From Mars' or how about 'Five Make A Blue Movie'? Any of these are not beyond the realms of possibility sadly.
