Hi there.everyone,Well,Somita this topic's really a good one.Anyways,I'm going to share a little comic-mystery experience of mine.

My grandfather was the lanlord of a big mansion in the village of Deoghar, near Calcutta,India.(I guess you all do'nt know the place,it's quite near my home)This mansion is quite of a ruin these days. But a person has bought ity to make a hotel there. So,two of my friends and I begged permission from our parents to let us go and stay there for a day in there. At last we got permission. There was an old watchman living there, who was told to take care of us.We were driven till there and given our lunch and dinner and then we had to walk a little way. This was on the 28th of September(a month ago).My friends,Ashwath and Soumyadeep(a little hard to pronounce I know  ) had our lunch there and chatted and played a little bit till 5 PM.Then began the actual fun/horror/mystery........
The watchman had went to eat his dinner at about 9 PM.We three were having our dinner, when we heard a scraping noise, under our bed.We did'nt mind till odd, muffled hooting sounds started coming from near our window.I went up boldly to see what it was,and almost screamed to see a long woman standing near the window.I ran over to my friends. Both of then were frightened as well.We started running, but all of us fel over each other in a hurry. Then we hurried along in a hurry, till we got another shock. There was a pair of green eyes in the corridor, looking straight at us.We collided to eac other and went back the path we had come.We slipped on our food-basket,and fell with a large sound.
Our watchman came running to find out why we were screaming. He merely laughed when we told him our story. He forced us to the window and flashed his torch. That’s whn we got to see that the long woman was a banana tree waving in the wind outside, the muffled hooting sounds were of an owl,and the pair of green eyes was the watchman’s pet cat’s.We were immensely relieved and the next we were telling the story to everyone.Nowadays my friends and I merely laugh when we recall the story but I still remember how terrified I felt that night…….
That was my story.Keep posting all of you.
Cheers,Ritu

I wish I could read all you wrote, Ritu, but your punctuation does make it rather difficult!  Great story, though.

Here's me on Halloween. It was a great day. I won 4th prize, for best costume. :D

You'll have to write a story set in your mansion, called The Mansion of Adventure, Ritu!

Spooky costume, Ming!

One of the times I was most terrified was one Christmas when I was about 10. To fit the relatives in, I wasn't sleeping in my usual bedroom. I woke up in the night, and saw the outline of a body lying beside the bed on the floor - and I absolutely FROZE. I eventually did get back to sleep, but hadn't dared to move a muscle.

In the light of morning, I was relieved to find that the "body" was my anorak, which I had hung up on the floor, with the white furry lining of the hood showing as the "head"

I don't know, but your avatar does remind me of something... ;)

Ritu, didn't mean to be rude, but what i was trying to say was that you should put spaces after commas, periods, etc.

I amused my Conservation mates today by falling over in a bog.

We were effectively "weeding" a nature reserve. Having tripped, I toppled gently forwards, and because my hands were full of the scrub I was pulling out, I landed in slow motion on my nose.

They found my soggy trousers hilarious

UGH

Yes, and use correct grammar, Ritu -- a "large" sound? (Sorry if you're hurt by my comments: I'm just giving friendly advice.)

Isn't that nit-picking a bit? All we're concerned about is that messages are set out clearly so they can be read easily, and that writers check the punctuation etc. before pressing "submit." The occasional unusual word or phrase, or the odd typo that has simply been overlooked, really shouldn't make much difference as long as the writer has taken some time to read through and check his/her message before posting.

Picking on my American English again, Nigel?

Julie, Nigel should be the one to enlighten you. I don't want to be a narcissist.

I've just qualified to go into the second round of our Interschool Writing and Oratory Competition. We had to write a 250 word piece based on one of the four pictures displayed, in one and a half hour. It was fun. I was the youngest contestant, I couldn't believe it that I actually broke into the Oratory round!! :D
