I didn't mean to suggest otherwise, old thing! The new light refers to you writing a lovely poem instead of the usual rhetoric concerning the 70s FF series!

A poem to cheer us all up:-

The Enid Blyton Day is getting nearer by the day,
And soon Loddon Hall will be full of people with plenty to say,
There'll be books and plenty of merchandize to buy and please,
And caterers too, selling delicious food, drinks and treats to fill our needs,
What fun it will be to meet friends old and new,
All having something in common, and I don't mean, Nancy Drew!!
But Enid Blyton our favourite writer,
So surely looking forward to this should make us all feel brighter,
So it's thanks to Tony for organizing all this with such gusto and flair,
Otherwise all we'd be doing is lazing around at home in a comfy chair.
:P

Wouldn't that be quite a strain?
We're not all blessed with Fatty's brain!

I read a story when I was very young called "The Rhyming Ink" (not an Enid tale) in which the characters wrote involuntarily in rhyme when using the ink. The idea has fascinated me since then and a friend and I once tried to say everything in rhyming couplets for a whole day. I don't think we succeeded!

Write a poem yourself : my poem and your poems

I think poetry is a great art I've written two poems one of them was published on Young world Magazine :This is the one.
I am a Chocoholic
I feel the chocolate flowing
in a stream pouring
with a sweet taste glowing

A chill goes round my body when i think of chocolate
Feeling the Aroma in my thoughts Factory
The brownish co lour reminds me off a chocolate pillar

As sweet as honey
chocolate is bought with money
It's crunchy,munchy,touchy and Fudgy

Eat it as chocolate fudge

Or chocolate cake with chocolate flake
I would like to make a chocolate boat
That would float
All the way through chocolate river

I would like to have a chocolate factory with
my own chocolate secretary

I wish i had chocolate in every shop
In every crop
In every prop
In every shop

Chocolate is better
than cheddar
I wish chocolate was as light as feather
And as large as life for me

I've written a poem on Enid Blyton too! I'll find it and put it hear.

I've added your poem to our "Poetry Corner" section, Zaidi, where people have written their own poems. Congratulations on being published. I think my favourite lines of yours are:

Mmm - I love the smooth, velvety sweetness of chocolate!

I thought I would stand up and let my tongue go loose and see if a poem would come out .....here it is..sorry its a bit corny! :D

Old Thatch Remembers........

I miss the days Enid lived here,
she loved me and I so loved her

The stories she wrote with aplomb did denote
a love for for the children so dear

the years have rolled and rolled on
...yes I miss her now that shes gone

its seems all has changed
with the world and its ways
since Miss Blyton was home on the range

But wait, whats that I hear
theres folks coming near

they love Enid like me
are due to visit and see
the place were she stayed,
created and played
Oh how lovely for me....

I do hope the garden looks well
and the flowers give off a nice smell
so that the Enid in mind
changes to the kind
of presence thats with you as well!

Ive stood here for aeons of time
had owners so varied and kind
but the one in my mind
is the one you can find
writing stories so great and sublime

So hurry on down to see me
Im lonely without Enid you see
I know you'll enjoy it
'twill make you feel buoyant
When Old Thatch you all come to see............

That's great Pete, I enjoyed reading it, I can picture the place in my mind, and people coming near...

I've been writing poetry again recently, and am awaiting a response from its recipient

From local comments of your restaurant
You’ll get complaints a lot of the time
So to stand out from the masses
I’ve written this one in rhyme
Do not however treat this
As flippant or insincere
I will raise some serious points
And issues I’ve found here.

My parents and I had a table booked
For the three of us, Loch Fyne at Seven
A family treat on the 10th April
Expecting a seafood heaven
Sadly here is where the heaven did cease
Unpleasant surprises taking its place
Typical Brit, I don’t complain often
But I feel I must in this case

Our mains ordered; I had the fish and chips
But as I chewed found, to my alarm
A dangerous pin bone, four in all
In my fillet, posing real harm
That destroyed all confidence in your food
As, like a surgeon, I dissected the fish
I raised the matter with waitress Sylvia
Who confirmed bones shouldn’t be in my dish
There was no offer to rectify
No apology, just ‘some bones had been missed’
Filleting not even up to chip shop standard
Customer safety should be top of your list.

My mother plumped for the Fish Curry
Described containing Monkfish and prawn
Found it sadly lacking in the main ingredient
And the rest overcooked, like rubber reborn.
The tureen in which her curry was served
Had two large chips on the rim
Is your standard really to serve food
In crockery only fit for the bin?

The desserts, thankfully free of fish bones
Still had their faults for Mum and me
Her lemon panna cotta, sadly a mousse
And my cheesecake, a chocolate brownie
The textures were completely wrong on both,
Yet after I’d spoken of bones in my fish
I noticed a distinct lack of interest
In whether we each were enjoying our dish.

You claim to be a seafood specialist
A restaurant with fish swimming in its veins
So it should be highly embarrassing
To have problems with both seafood mains
Only the steak passed without complaint
But our evening had been tainted by then
We planned next month to bring our neighbours
Yet I now fear a disaster again.

Last night we paid over seventy pounds
For overcooked prawns and missed bones
For damaged crockery and poor desserts
We’d have been better staying at our homes
I appreciate every restaurant
Can occasionally have a bad day
I feel we’ve experienced one of yours
And had a high price to pay.

Is your customer service better than your food?
How do you react to those who complain?
What will you do to rectify this incident?
Do you care if we come back again?
I hope you can resolve this at the local level
However you are suitably warned
If I don’t hear from you by April 15th
Your Head Office will be informed.

Lovely poem Pete. Let's hope the garden is looking forward to the gathering of Enid's fan.

Great Zoe!

Many thanks Zoe & Julie......(not in Erns league yet!!)

Zoe,your poem also hit the mark!

Are you ever able to write poems of thanks/compliments to businesses and services that stand out for looking after their customers and treating them well?

I would imagine great service and good customer relations are hard to find in most places in this country now.
The ones that excell should surely be singled out for praise for raising their game!
Better stop now -im beginning to sound like Mary Portas!!! :D :D :D

Regards

Pete

Now there is a thought Pete,

I have written a few for people who have done good deeds, but not businesses - I shall keep more of an eye out for the opportunity, in the meantime if you find one that does and you'd like me to construct some rhyming rubbish I'd be happy to...

Mary Portas - what a legend :)
