My Autumn Poem

Post by Maureen1954 »

Autumn Hues

The suns golden warm rays capture the autumn hues in its charm
As Mother Nature creates another season of autumn's calm,

The passive breeze rustles through the boughs and branches of the trees
Whilst they stand graciously, submissive and at their upmost ease,

Falling leaves fall gently from the trees onto the ground
They form a blanket of rustic tranquillity all around,

Scents of autumn by Mother Earth fills the air and everyone with her pleasure
A memory to behold of all the above that we can and will always truly treasure.

Enid Mary Blyton

Enid Mary Blyton is a unique children's author and uppermost profilic
All of her books are special in many many ways and terrific,

We can visualise her sitting in Old Thatch and Green Hedges abodes
Typewriter in lap, typing away from her minds eye into a creative mode,

We are taken into her world of imagination from the stories she has written
For more than ninety years ago and until today we are all still smitten,

Enid has also shared with us her family, pets, homes, love of nature and the wild
Showing her true self of kindness and inspiration for every child,

In her stories we could either be in adventure, toyland, school or Tally Ho Wood
Blessed are we who read her books and can still return to our Blytonian childhood,

God bless and thankyou Enid for sharing your gift and for those yet to be born
For we already know that they like us Enid Blyton will always adorn.

Thanks for sharing those with us, Maureen. Some lovely images, especially the leaves forming "a blanket of rustic tranquillity" in 'Autumn Hues'.

Here's one I did for my dad on his BD last year:

This Makes Up A Paaaaaaaaaaaartay!!!

Colorful Balloons,
Big streamers,
And a cake with some spoons!
This makes up......
A Paaaaaaaaaaartay!!!

Games & fun,
Balls & talk,
And friends in a ton!
This makes up......
A Paaaaaaaaaaartay!!!

Great everyone feels,
With some drinks,
And scrumptious meals!
This makes up......
A Paaaaaaaaaaaartay!!!

Most important of all,
Kindness & merriment,
And love so tall!
This makes up......
A PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTAY!!!

And that is what you'll taste,
Today, on the 21st of August,
'Cause you're the BEST!
The best makes up......
A Paaaaaaaaaaartay!!!

SO YOU MAKE UP A....

PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTAY!!!

So I wrote a poem...

Hi everyone - long time, no see! I've been lurking on the forums for quite some time, although I did go through a phase of posting here a lot. In the meantime, I've been spending a bit of time writing, working specifically on some pieces for children, and finally decided to put something out into the world, which I did via my Facebook page last Sunday. I thought I might share it here, one of the things I tried to do with this poem was to blend a kind of Enid Blytony-Robert Louis Stevensony feel with my own style and view of the world. So, if you think it would interest you, please feel free to go and have a look!

Hello David - good to see you here again. I have just read your delightful sonnet by following the link. I like it very much. I guess you don't have much time for reading Blyton these days! Do you still sign yourself off with "later days" as you used to? :)

Hello there! Thanks for reading it! I do actually pick a Blyton from my shelf from time to time - although I haven't read a series in a while. I have read a number of the shorter stories that I missed as a child, which has been quite a lot of fun. I don't say "later days" so much anymore, possibly - I suppose - because I don't visit the forum so often, but I had been thinking about the phrase during the week that I posted, mainly because I had been reading Call Me By Your Name, in which a character uses the catchphrase "later" whenever taking leave. This quotation resonated in particular:
André Aciman wrote:“But Later! was also a way of avoiding saying goodbye, of making light of all goodbyes. You said Later! not to mean farewell but to say you’d be back in no time.”
I think that had a lot to do with my choice of sign-off. At any rate, I think I've also just been working a lot over the past while, and I got married in March, so it has been a busy time. But I do come and lurk here a lot to see what people have to say about my old favourite friends like Barney, Darrell and the like.

Fatty and Bets - Sixteen Going on Seventeen

Post by S-Dog2001 »

Merged with an older thread.

A little while ago I changed some of the words of the Sound of Music's 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' to make it so Fatty and Bets were singing it.
I thought I may as well post it somewhere on the the forms as a bit of fun, although, of course, it wouldn't make that much sense to someone who didn't know the original song.
(It's set in a time period some time after the books when Bets is actually 16)

“Fatty, it is rather boring having no mysteries to work on,” said Bets, one Autumn day. “Couldn't you make up one of your marvellous poems, and make it about a mystery, or something?”
“You wait, little Bets, while I think of a good line to start it off,” said Fatty.
“Oh, Fatty, I don't mind you calling me that, but you know I'm not little anymore,” giggled Bets. “I'm sixteen!”
“So you are, Bets,” grinned Fatty. “That gives me an idea for not a poem, but a song.”

You are sixteen going on seventeen
Betsy, what do you think?
Suspects and clues, enough to confuse
Oh, Betsy, how are they linked?
You are sixteen going on seventeen
You're growing old and wise.
Brains such as yours will undoubtedly cause
The downfall of thieves and spies.
Totally unprepared are they
To face a girl like you.
Timid and shy and scared are they
In case they leave a clue.‎
You'll have someone older beside you
Helping with what you do.
I am nineteen going on twenty
I'll take care of you.

“Oh, Fatty!” laughed Bets. I’m not quite as good as all that! Hang on, I’ve got another verse for it.

I am sixteen going on seventeen
I've got a lot to learn:
Ventriloquize and how to disguise well ‎
Fatty, you teach me how.
I am sixteen going on seventeen
I don't like Mr Goon.
You are much nicer, gentle and wiser,
Canny and opportune.
Totally well-prepared are you‎
To face a mystery.‎
Livid, annoyed and scared are they
Who strive to outwit you.
I need someone older and wiser
Teaching me what to do;
You are nineteen going on twenty
I'll depend on you.
Bets sat down suddenly because her knees began shaking.
"I’ve got that feeling again,” she said earnestly. “You know – that something is wrong with Fatty.”
