Uni interview = arrrrrgggghhhhhh!
Hello all How is everyone?
I don't think I posted this, but I was lucky enough to get an interview with Middlesex University in London for their midwifery course It's on the 7th February so I'll be travelling up to London on the 6th and back on the 8th.
However, we have to do a 30 min essay as part of the selection procedure, so I'm trying to get an idea of what I want to say beforehand. Can I string a coherent sentence together for it? Can I heck!!! Arrrggghhhh!!!
I'm counting my blessings though as some require a maths or group discussion as part of the selection and a maths test would send me into a flat spin!

Good luck for your interview Manzanita. Wow - it sounds tought that you are required to write an essay in a certain time frame.

Good luck with your interview, Manzy. I'm sure that you'll do fine, and that you'll think of something to write your essay on. Are you allowed to write it on anything? Seems strange to me!

Good luck with your interview
What a good course you're going to be doing. We definitely need more midwives at the moment. I really hope you get selected. It must be a lovely job (if you're not rushed off your feet all the time). All my midwives were really nice.

Re: Uni interview = arrrrrgggghhhhhh!
Thank you everyone for your messages and good luck!
It's not unusual for something extra on the selection days - some unis go the whole hog and do numeracy, written and group discussion tests, plus an interview so I have got off lightly!
I had a think at work, and reasoned that I was trying a bit too hard. All I have to do is show decent spelling, grammar and a logical train of thought. They are not expecting a full detalied analysis of the subject complete with full references because it's a half hour essay.
The question is vague "write about an issue in women's health" so I have a lot of leeway to write about what I choose. I chose "why women choose vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC)" as my subject. I did start off with "and its' implications for midwives" but it became too big a subject in that I would be writing for days

It never ceases to amaze me the sheer variety of topics covered in the General Natter section! My advice for the essay would be to stick with VBAC as a subject. My little sister (aged 40!) is hoping for a natural birth after a caesarean with her first child nine years ago. She has cited many reasons for this with the main one being about safety. Only ten days or so to go.

All the best to your sister, Petermax! My little sister (aged 36!) is expecting her first baby - in fact, today is her due date but we haven't heard anything yet. She's in Australia (Tasmania) so I've no idea when I'll get to see the baby - it depends when she and her husband can get over to the UK.
I had two "natural" births but the first was a long and complicated labour while the second was quick and relatively easy. Let's hope all goes well for both our sisters!

Cheers, Manzy. My sister had her baby tomorrow! (Well, she had it today, a couple of hours ago, but it's already tomorrow in Australia!) It's a little girl named Carys. So now I'm an auntie!
Hope the preparation for the interview is going well, Manzy!

Congratulations on becoming an Aunty Anita. Now there's another child who will be raiding your Blyton collection in a few years time.

Congratulations indeed Aunty Anita! My sister is due on February 10th, all is well so far. I'm thoroughly looking forward to being an Uncle again for the third time.
