So, are you one of those sad people who can't keep out of the shops for more than 24 hours? If I had my way, all shops would be closed between 24th December and the 2nd January. Just imagine the poor staff, one day off with their families, then back to work on Boxing Day, just because people can't stay at home and have a good time. Aaarrgghhh!
Nigel how can you make such an accusation when I never even wrote that I am going shopping?  (Name calling will get you nowhere! :!: )
Anyway no I am not going shopping just yet, and I am not one of those "sad people" who can't stay out of the shops. I put the above comment in, so that people who like shopping and enjoy it, can have some GOOD LUCK in finding bargains! :D
There is always something else new to learn.

Perhaps what they mean is the lovely smell of Grandma's baking? :D

Thank you Ming. That's probably what they mean. :D

Not an accusation, old thing, just a question! Anyway, glad to hear that you didn't spend Boxing Day in the shops! Image

I bought Mother the 1000 piece jigsaw. We did all the edge last night, and I'm just off to help tackle the rest :)

The Signalman, by Dickens, isn't particularly a Christmas ghost story, but it has become a must see for us, every year. If you are not familiar with it, it is being shown on BBC4 on Thursday evening.
Having just looked out my Box of Delights DVD, so I can have an episode a night till Christmas Eve, I went looking for The Signalman on YouTube, and it is there - not sure if it is on TV this year, so I think I'll rewatch it online if not. And A Christmas Carol at the weekend, I think :D

It is on BBC4, Christmas Eve at 1.30 am (it is given as the 23rd in Radio Times, as nightime programmes continue in the previous day's schedules).

Looking back it seems to me that the most memorable Christmasses are those involving children....beginning (what else) with one's own childhood memories of Christmas, and moving on to sharing Christmasses with younger generations.

Ah yes, Christmas barbecues 'neath the Pohutukawa trees at the beach...sunburn, surf and sand.....

Great postings everyone, irrelevant that most of them are a year old.

And so,

    CHRISTMAS.

Absolutely! I will be viewing Christmas through the eyes of my younger niece and baby nephew who has just started to walk. :D :D

This time of year always brings back so many happy memories of past childhood Christmas celebrations going back to over 40 years ago. I used to love the constant procession of Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and friends of the family through the front door.

I think as you get older, Christmas's are all about when you were kids. That's the beauty of having grand children. I've had my grand children here this morning whilst their parents went shopping. The tall tree fascinated them, they loved the lights all around the rooms, and loved looking into the windows of the ornamental village church with the lights inside, and the lanterns I have lit with scented candles. It's lovely to see their little faces, and gives us just as much joy watching them as the joy they get. :D

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE ON THE FORUMS AND ALL THE BEST FOR THE COMING NEW YEAR.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS to everyone on the forums and ALL THE BEST FOR 2009!!!

Unfortunately we are not going to have a white Christmas this year either! We had snow until Friday last (19/12) but it turned to rain on Saturday and the temperature has risen and is now +7, so all the snow was washed away by the rain!! However, that is not unusual, as we normally have mild weather at Christmas time.

Cheers,
BOODI

I think snow is something we all wish for at Christmas time, like in the old films and on Christmas cards, but I can hardly remember a Christmas with snow.

I have never seen snow in my life - though I would like to see it, if only for once. But the climate is impossible for it to happen where I live - it's too warm.

Wishing Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Hi all! Like Philip, I too have never seen snow in my life. I would have loved to play with snowballs. This time of the year is my favourite. Even though we do not celebrate Christmas in our house, I always go to the church and pray on this day.
Anyways, may your world be filled with warmth and good cheer this Holy season, and throughout the year.Wish your christmas be filled with peace and love.
Merry X-mas to all the forumities :!: :D
