Happy Birthday Keith!
Happy Birthday, old thing!
Put up some lanterns in those underground tunnels, borrow a gramophone and we'll all bring along some goodies and have a Blytonian bash!

May your candles burn brightly and your icing never go soft. Have a great day with heaps of food and lashings of ginger beer.

Re: Happy Birthday Keith!
Gosh, thank you, all of you!!! I didn't expect a thread of my own! I feel very privileged! You're all well ahead of me, of course; while you were saying Happy Birthday I was still sound asleep in bed at 5am or so.
Even though I'm now 38, I woke up this morning feeling exactly the same as yesterday. I looked in the mirror and thought, "Hmm, the grey hair looks the same. No change there." (Those are stress-greys, you understand, through years of being self-employed and trying to keep the money coming in. )
I didn't get any Blyton books (that's too much to ask considering what it takes to get hold of them here) but I did get a book called Monster Spotter's Guide to North America. It's very funny, and -- as the books dutifully points out -- "monster spotting is a much healthier alternative to monster hunting." Now I can read all about the Black Dog of West Peak (a ghostly dog, and a bad omen if you see it, although it's actually described as a small, friendly spaniel with sad eyes); the Jackalope, which is like a rabbit with antlers; and the Everglades Skunk Ape, a creature that is prone to violence and once threw a kitten at a witness when startled.
All very interesting, and sure to help me survive out in here in the wilderness. There's one creature, though, that sounds very Blyton-like to me: the Hidebehind, which gets its name from its ability to always be behind someone no matter which way they turn. *shudder*
