A friend of mine used to let her chatty toddler loose with cold callers too. He'd happily talk away to anyone given half the chance, the only danger with that is I suppose the caller might get the child to divulge private information, although I suspect they'd probably just hang up pretty quickly.

If I get a call and it takes more than a few seconds for the caller to speak I just hang up as I know it's an auto-dialled call.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Well I do say "hello" when I answer the phone, and then if I'm left waiting listening to silence I know it's an autodialler waiting to connect me to someone.

This discussion about dialings, hang-up calls reminds me of the movie, The Lover (adapted from an autobiographical novel by the same title), where French writer, Marguerite Duras gets a call from her long-lost love, who at first hesitates to identify himself, but later does so after a pause. It is amazing that she never hangs up on him after quite a long pause, although it could be that she had already recognized the voice from the other end...

Two of the MANY things that annoy me is when my 5 year old cousin tells me and my sister to stop fighting, and when A girl at school keeps on asking me if my best friend is `Introjucing' me into her conversation

Looking at an estate agent's details yesterday, it read, "the property enjoys two double bedrooms..." Enjoys? How can a house enjoy a bedroom....?

How about the houses that 'benefit from' things that I would think are rather a necessity like a front door!

I don't know about the house, but maybe a couple moving into the house might 'enjoy' the double bedrooms.
