Eileen Soper - Selected Pics In Colour!

Post by pete9012S »

I'm a strange creature - no really I am.
I like Eileen Soper and Betty Maxey equally.
Therefore, here are some Soper pics that have been coloured to the max!

Those are really lovely Pete and it goes without saying that I much prefer Eileen Soper's depiction of the five, especially Timmy!

Agreed Pete! Oddly enough, as an artist/illustrator I think that Betty Maxey was just as talented as Eileen Soper, but both reflect the era in which the illustrations were produced and for some reason (nostalgia perhaps), Eileen Soper's illustrations have better stood the test of time. In addition, my main crib with Betty Maxey's illustrations is how she depicts Timmy!!!

My main crib with Betty Maxey's illustrations is she can't draw.

Please stay on topic John, this thread is all about the marvellous Eileen Soper - thank you.

*Is John's hypnotherapy and psychiatric help in getting over Betty Maxey and her artwork wearing off??*

Sorry, Pete. Eileen Soper can draw, she's a brilliant artist.

I agree with Boodi about the reasons why I also much prefer Eileen Soper's illustrations. In particular, I love how she draws Timmy - especially some of the ones with George in 'Five Go Adventuring Again'.

If Maxey is a talented artist, I'd hate to see illustrations by an untalented artist.

Don't forget, some of the efforts of more recent FF illustrators make Maxey look like Rembrandt by comparison...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
