It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

If I were rich, I'd have the first one (showing Timmy going up to the lighthouse) installed in my flat as a stained-glass window!

That's a lovely thought Anita.

Wow, how poor old Betty divides opinions my dear old amigo John P!

Still, it is very good of you John to take the time to look at every Betty Maxey pic here and give us his honest, heartfelt opinion.

I appreciate John often waters down his thoughts so as to not hurt my feelings, but nonetheless, his thoughtful comments are all most appreciated.

As I posted on the other thread, I much prefer Eileen Soper.

Hers are mostly very good. While Betty Maxey's drawings are sometimes OK, other times quite poor. Rarely very good. Of the ones above, I don't mind the last two at all. But she's awful at drawing Timmy compared to Eileen Soper. And, I don't really know how to describe it, but Eileen Soper's illustrations look like a work of art, while Betty Maxey's often look more like they're from a cartoon. I much prefer the more polished and classy looking Eileen Soper illustrations.
