I read literary studies at university, but it didn’t seem to have made such a profound impression on me, as I was delighted to find a pile of those Enid Blyton books of the Five from one flea market, only one was missing. Not too much sex and no violence, appropriate reading for me.
Can you guess the titles from the covers? Any you like best?

Some of those are quite good, but I feel most are too faded, particularly the one which I assume is Smuggler's Top - it's just too red.

My favourite is the one with George cuddling Timmy - it could almost be a photograph the quality of drawing is so good.

Nice artwork on many of those. The one where they are wading through water in a tunnel caught my eye particularly. I'm not certain which it is though. Down to the Sea maybe?

Not too much sex? The Swedish editions were obviously spiced up a bit then.
I like the cover for Demon's Rocks and Fall into Adventure which I assume is the middle cover on the second row.
The one for Billycock Hill seems to be set on Mars yet again.

I certainly don't remember anything of that sort in any of my versions - the closest thing I would say was that possibly Jo had a crush on Dick.

That's probably all the writer had read and implied when they said 'not too much', Katharine. :D

JP is probably on eBay now looking for some Swedish editions. :D ;)

Can anyone work out which one is missing. I've had a quick look but can't quite make out which it is.

Yes John, like you I was wondering what the missing title could be!
I suppose we could work it out by elimination?

A far as I can make out most of the titles differ from the original ones. The only one that seems to be identical is "Five are together again".

It is easy to cheat here as the Swedish titles are all in the Cave.

I find these Swedish covers attractive on the whole, though Timmy looks rather like a bear in some pictures! Fem Pa Fotvandring (Five on a Hike Together) is my favourite, I think. The Five are nicely framed by the tree, the colours are intense and there's a real sense of adventure. Fem Reser Till Havet (Five Go Down to the Sea) and Fem Och Sjorovar-skatten (Five Go to Demon's Rocks) appeal to me too. Lovely colours and composition.
