The mystery of the puss in boots

summary

Le Chat Botté could not commit the theft of which he is accused! That's the conviction of the Five Detectives and that of ... their dog.

Their friend Charlie, who plays in the theater the role of the Puss in Boots, is a victim of appearances. Can we expect Mr. Groddy, the village policeman, to know how to see beyond these appearances?

The suspects are numerous but all have strong alibis. Fatty and his team of young detectives are about to ... give their tongue to the cat!

It was then that Betsy, the youngest, made a remark that put the matter in a new light ...

I suppose it could be translated like that.
I know there's the fairy tale with the German name "Der gestiefelte Kater" - I don't know the names in English or French, but it's possible that they're "Puss in boots" and "Le chat botté".

In the German books they call the play "Dick Whittington", to answer another question of yours, Pete.

At a quarter to three all the Find-Outers were down at the Little Theatre. A grubby little boy was in the booking-office, and gave them their tickets. They passed into the theatre and found their seats. They had taken them as far forward as they could, so as to be able to observe the actors very closely.

There were two plays and a skit on Dick Whittington’s Pantomime. In the first two plays, Boysie did not appear, but he came in at the last one, and the children shouted with delight as he shuffled in on all fours, dressed in the big furry skin that the boys had seen through the window on Friday night. He was very funny. He waved to the children

Many thanks once again Wolfgang - I checked the English text for a mention of Dick Whittington and came across the above.
I didn't realise the children watched two plays and a pantomime at the theatre - or more honestly, I had forgotten!
