I thought this cover comparison was fascinating.Very similar to the UK paperback, but with enough subtle differences to appeal to the (???????) market.
Those branches on the right don't look sturdy enough to support him though!

You have a Malaysian edition there, Pete. An interesting cover change.

Thanks Tony.I just love the way the books have had the covers subtlety changed to appeal to the Malaysian children..
Here's a couple more. What do you think of them?

I suppose you could fill another cave with all the alternate foreign language cover editions!

Interesting covers, Pete. Though I myself can't tell why the original covers can't appeal to the Malaysian market.

They have made all the children dark haired, but I see no other real difference.

I didn't notice it on the first picture earlier but on seeing several now I think they all have slightly darker skin too.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Generally speaking Anne has changed the most. I wonder if a Malaysian book for children would
have the children changed to light-skinned if they were issued over here - probably not!

Re: Three Cheers Secret Seven
I think the publishers were trying to allow a Malaysian audience to relate more to an essentially very English book that I doubt a lot of Malaysians can relate to. I personally don't see any harm in expanding the scope of Blyton's books to achieve universal popularity outside of commonwealth/European countries. Whether you think changing such things as the colour of the children's skin is appropriate is open to debate.
