Enid used many illustrators in her books. Discuss them here.

And they're up! Enjoy! :D My original post is still there as well to avoid confusion, it's right below the sea of links.

------------------------------------------ ORIGINAL POST ------------------------------------------

Hi there!

I was wondering if anyone would be interested to see scans of the Dutch editions of Malory Towers and St. Clares? I couldn't find them on the site (yet), so I thought maybe people would be interested. :D

Perhaps this is a really stupid question, maybe everyone already has scans of every Enid Blyton cover. Please excuse me if I'm completely behind here.

But if people are interested, I can provide scans of the Dutch covers (I think they're all from the 40's) of First Term at Malory Towers, Upper Fourth at Malory Towers, In the Fifth at Malory Towers, The Twins at St Clare's, The O' Sullivan Twins, Summer Term at St Clare's, The Second Form at St Clare's and Claudine at St Clare's (I also have The Second Form at Malory Towers, but I can't seem to find it anywhere at the moment).

I personally would love to see them, Mam'zelle Abominable. :) Did you see the other cover scans in the Cave of books?

I'd be interested to see them too, Mam'zelle Abominable. I very much like the image you've used for your avatar. Tony might even want to add the vintage Dutch covers to the Cave of Books at some point, though I know he's snowed under with work at the moment.

Yes, I will willingly put the Dutch scans into the Cave of books. If you could send them to my email address - tony@enidblytonsociety.co.uk - and also if possible give me the details of the illustrator, date and publisher as I like to include that information where possible.

I just e-mailed them to you, I hope you'll receive them! Should I post the covers in this thread as well?

By the way, I happened to find The Second Form at Malory Towers after all after a quick search around the house, so that one is also included. :D

Thanks so much for sending me the scans of the Dutch editions and sorry that I have been too busy to come back to you. I slightly misunderstood you as I thought they were older editions but they are actually quite recent and I would not want to put them in the Cave, so do post the links here as I am sure people would like to see the books. You can see some of the earlier editions on this Dutch Blyton Website.

You're welcome! I'm sorry that they weren't the books you were looking for, I hope those will pop up too one day.

Then I'll post the scans here later tonight! I will edit my first post to keep this thread organised. :D

Merci beaucoup, Mam'zelle Abominable. Although they're not the earliest covers I do like the Malory Towers ones, which look as though they date from the 1960s or 1970s. I can't imagine Miss Grayling allowing the girls to dress in trendy gear like that, though! Is there no school uniform in the Dutch editions of the books? I'm not as keen on the St. Clare's covers as the children look too young, but it's interesting to see them.

You're welcome! :D It's weird that the year in the book isn't correct, they all say 1941. And while that's probably about the book itself, it's still a little strange that there is no date inside of when these exact books were released. Hence I thought the covers were from the 40's, gah, I always thought I had the really old ones. Turns out I don't. :(

I like them a lot too! They do have uniforms in the books, but the illustrations are very inaccurate. There are no illustrations at all where the girls are pictured in their uniforms, strange!
I don't like the St. Clare's ones that much either. I love the style, but even when they're supposed to be what? 16? They still look like 10-year-olds... :|

That's a "pitty", Mam'zelle Abominable. Some publishers do that in the UK too - they just put the date of the first edition, even if that particular book is a later printing.

That's really sad I think, because I think most people who really love the books would want to know how old they exactly are.

Ha, and I still wonder why they called her Pitty, don't they have any idea what that actually means in English (even though the spelling is a little different)?

The Malory Towers series was only started in 1946 so even the originals wouldn’t be from 1941!
The first St Clare’s book was published in 1941 so maybe they got mixed up.
