Re: The Mystery Series.
Thanks Anita for that information on pasting images. I will remember that. Talking of the pantomime cat I am now reading an old version of the Pantomime cat alongside a newer version and I am amazed to see how many differences there are. I am going to compile and summarise the difference and post them somewhere on this website. I think earlier on there is a thread on the Pantomime cat. The frontispiece has a picture of the pantomime cat and it says it gave Fatty a shock. Well it would give me a shock too.

Re: The Mystery Series.
I'm glad you managed to post the picture, Irene - even though it is a chilling portrayal of the pantomime cat!
I'd be interested to hear about the differences between the older and newer editions of The Mystery of the Pantomime Cat. If you like, you could start a new thread for your comparison of the two versions.

Re: The Mystery Series.
When I first read the Pantomime Cat I was about 11 and the hardback copy I had was a present. I must say when I saw the picture in question, my heart gave a lurch and I was not drawn to it at all. I was with Fatty there - I had a shock too!

Re: The Mystery Series.
I may do. I need to search first for a suitable thread but if there is no suitable thread I will start one up. I have finally worked out and succeeded in adding a picture to my profile. Took me several attempts but I got there in the end. I have added the delightful picture of Snoeks the cat rushing down the stairs in fright in my favourite book the Rubadub Mystery.

Good avatar! Snoek had been renamed Sardine by the time I read the books in the 1970s.

Yes I know Snoek had been renamed Sardine but I prefer the original name. I have now added a comment to my signature from the Mystery of the Strange Messages from the amazing and unique Fatty to Mr Good which sums him (Goon) up.

I mean Mr Good not Mr Good and that was definitely NOT a Freudian slip.

Re: The Mystery Series.
Has Sardine been renamed?
I watched a TV programme recently where a family sampled food from previous decades, and I think it was during the war years that they had sardines on toast - the children (all teenagers) didn't know what a tin of sardines was.
I wonder what the modern update should be - "fish finger" perhaps.

Irene, re Snoeks the cat - because all my books dated from the early 1970's I thought the name Snoek was a Barnard type error when I first came across it in earlier editions!Irene Malory Towers wrote:Yes I know Snoek had been renamed Sardine but I prefer the original name..

Back to the mystery series - I think Fatty had a cat but I don't think it was named? Maybe I'm wrong??

Re: The Mystery Series.
The first editions art for the five find outers books is really beautiful especially Evans . I understand that when Armada did the paperbacks in the 60s they printed the same. However I wonder why they didn't include the same when they came back to publishing the 5 Find outers again in the 80s . The 60s paperbacks are so hard to find. They went with the Jenny Chapple illustrations which Dragon did.
