That's really rather good!

Re: The Secret of Spiggy Holes
I'm reading this book at the moment, and this passage so reminded me of the Adventure series with Kiki:
Which book did Kiki first say Pop goes the weasel! I wonder!!
Of course Spiggy Holes dates from 1940 and The Adventure Series started in 1944.Nora and Peggy sat up, quite wide awake. They looked round their sunny room with its four quaint windows. They could see four bits of bright blue sky, and they could hear the sound of the waves breaking at the cliff-foot. They felt so full of happiness that they had to sing.
“Here we are at Spiggy Holes,
Here we are at Spiggy—
Here we are at Spiggy Holes,
Pop goes the weasel!”
yelled Nora to the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel.”
The others took up the silly song and they all went downstairs in their bathing-costumes, roaring the tune. Miss Dimity put her head out of the kitchen.
“Dear me, it’s you!” she said. “I thought it was the canary singing.”
The children squealed with laughter and rushed down the steep path to the beach. They flung themselves into the water.
“Now our holidays really have begun!” said Mike, as he splashed Peggy. “What fun we’re going to have!”

Re: The Secret of Spiggy Holes
Enid obviously liked the name ‘Spiggy’, as the vet who tended to Timmy in Five on a Hike Together lived at Spiggy House.

Island Of Adventure:
“The boy’s gone mad,” said Jake, to the other two men. Evidently they
still thought they had Jack shut up in the cave.
“Pop goes the weasel!” announced Kiki dramatically, and then made a
noise like a railway engine going through a tunnel and whistling.
“He’s off his head,” said Olly, amazed.
There came a terrific screech, and the third man spoke suddenly.
“That’s a parrot. That’s what that is. The boy has got his parrot in there.”

Re: The Secret of Spiggy Holes
I'm reading this book now - via Hollow Tree House, which led me to The Secret Island - and you're so right. Can't help but think of Kiki whenever I hear, or read, 'Pop Goes the Weasel.'pete9012S wrote: ↑13 Jul 2022, 18:11 I'm reading this book at the moment, and this passage so reminded me of the Adventure series with Kiki:
