Bookcase Of Antique Books, Enid Blyton £1,500

Post by pete9012S »

Bookcase Of Antique Books. Some first editions, mostly Enid Blyton books, full set of Noddy included.

1st edition and 2nd edition of Five go Adventuring again. 1st edition has the dust jacket.
1st edition of the Treasure Hunters.
Five on Treasure Island published 1951.

Lots of other lovely old books, I am not an expert, selling for a relative, but would guess worth more than listed price. The bookcase is included.

Had a caring owner from smoke and pet free home.
Welcome to come and view.

Wish I could work out what some of them are though I doubt there's any I'm after there. A photo of each shelf would have been much easier to see however!

It looks like there's around 150 books so they're wanting £10 a book! Seems a lot considering how many are clearly later editions. At least they're throwing in the bookcase!

I'm puzzling over the fact they decided to show a few books in close up and even the insides of a couple yet didn't think to use a decent non-fuzzy photo of the whole lot...

Having read the rest of the listing I can see the person selling has looked at the photo and not the actual items while typing it. There are apparently 27 Famous Five books MINIMUM, so clearly there are some duplicates. There are also some non-Blyton books.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

The picture rather resembles my bookcase though I have more hardbacks and less Dean versions - and I only have about 6 Noddy books! I think the price is somewhat optimistic.

Er, yes, somewhat. I would think that most people who are interested in collecting Enid Blyton books will already have a good number of those particular books and won't want to spend £1,500 on a huge job lot that contains quite a few duplicates of books they've already got — and people who are only just starting to collect Blytons probably won't be prepared to spend such a huge amount of money in one go even if they don't happen to own any of those books at present!! I'm sure it would be more effective to sell the books as several smaller lots (e.g. per series or theme) for a more reasonable price each.

I'm considering emailing the seller to inform him/her that another ebay seller was recently asking £182.70 for just The Mystery of the Spiteful Letters in paperback so they may be possibly undervaluing this large collection...especially with the full Noddy Set included...

I've already got a complete set of Noddy, so I won't be negotiating for that one. But Anita might want it, of course...

I suppose I could send some books in German ;-). Today arrived a parcel, among them 15 Noddy books in German. So I have some duplicates now.

I know Noddy and the Tootles quite well. I've been reading it to my great-niece (or grand-niece?) and she doesn't get tired of it!

So how will Royal Mail get that bookcase through the letter box?

Having re-looked at this on a bigger screen it seems quite a rip off. Only the top two shelves look to be originals, the others are nearly all Deans editions which are really easy and cheap to buy! So it's not a bookcase of antique books at all and not worth £1500 (at least not in my opinion anyway).

 How will they get it in the van first to deliver it to the letterbox? :P

The seller, if they manage to sell it, does say 'Free collection in person', although that's not really free as it would cost you to get to Chelmsford. :D

Just noticed there's a white spine Five on a Treasure Island there, which MIGHT be worth something...

Image

Meanwhile, I just noticed another thing too — the date stamp down the side. Aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure no modern cameras do that (the last one I had that did was a late 1990s film camera), the date given is 27/10/06. Was this photo seriously taken in 2006, or is it just that the seller has a very old camera with an incorrect date setting?? It's all a bit weird.

I noticed the date when I first read the posting and assumed it to have been taken by the original owner of the items thirteen years ago. Some modern cameras can be set to date stamp the actual images, as my latest Sony camera can, although I doubt that being the case here, as why would you want to date it so long ago?
