I AM DELIGHTED TO CONSIDER OFFERS BUT DON’T BE TOO SILLY

Very rare for eBay full set of hardback famous five books with dust jackets ALL original - NO PHOTOCOPIES. Most of other full sets if you look carefully have photocopied dust jackets on some. All but 2 are hodder originals, 2 are brockhampton. Condition is good in general but see notes below and pictures.

Treasure island - 16th 1963 sticker on front and price clipped

Adventuring - 11th 1958 torn dust jacket and clipped

Run away - 11th 1960 Vg minor wear only

Smugglers - 11th 1957 tears to dust at top of spine

Caravan - 10th 1957 tears to edges of dust

Kirrin - 11th 1958 a few small tears

Camp - 5th 1953 in a protective jacket which im loathe To remove. Inscription

Trouble - 8tg 1957small tears

Adventure - 8th 1959 small tears

Hike - 7th 1958 small tears

Time -6th 1960 clipped and a tear by on the edge. The

Sea - first edition 1953. Tears to dust and an inscription

Mystery - 3rd 1956 tears to top and bottom of spine etc

Fun -4th 1959 tear to top and bottom. Name plate

Trail - 3rd 1962 in protective plastic sleeve dust pretty bad!

Billycock 2nd 1959 minor wear inscriptions

Fix 5th 1966 cover damage

Finniston - brockhampton 1968 ticks to books owned

Demons 4th 1965 minor wear

Mystery 1st ed - section cut out minor wear aside

Together borckhampton 1966 tears etc clipped

I wondered what would be a reasonable offer for these books from a serious collector???

What would put me off are the photocopied dust jackets. That's fine when you buy a book and know its photocopied - but in a 'full set' like this they should either ALL be photocopied, or ALL be originals...in my view!

despite that, I'd say maybe a reasonable offer would be £10 for each dust wrapper book and £6.00 for each photocopy cover...but it all depends on overall quality of each individual book.

 oops! Yeah I read it wrong, where the seller was talking about 'copied jackets' duh! 'my bad' as they say!

In that case, I would say maybe about £150.00 - £175.00 for the set give or take the odd chewed up wrapper etc...but whether 'what they are worth' would be the same as 'what I'd offer' is another matter. I might offer £105.00

Edit -- well, I made the above suggestion before I clicked on the link...and I see the seller is asking way more.
I'm pretty certain 'he' wouldn't accept £105.00! - BUT I think 'he' is selling them for more than they are worth, going by the fact I would sell those books for between £10 and £16 each depending on edition and condition of wrapper. Some wrappers look excellent but some a bit tatty. Those books could definitely only be sold for maybe £10 or £12. The Brockhampton editions I would only sell for £10 each.

I'm not sure I understand what you say: if you think the books are each worth between £10 and £16, and there are 21 books, why do you think the set is only worth £150.00 - £175.00? Shouldn't it be between £210 and £336?

I must admit, I don't know what would be a reasonable price to offer for this set without looking at each book individually.

I have included the all important 'spine shot' and also a genuine autograph from 'Diddy' /'Piddy' which may push the eventual selling price beyond my reach.

Because I would be aiming to buy them for less than I think they are worth.

Who's 'Diddy' lol?! :-D

Pete, in my view, from what I can see, those books look better than the previous set. There's only really one that has a substantial portion of the spine missing, which is a shame - I usually reject books that don't have the title present - and that's 'Five Go Down to the Sea' - funnily enough the only book in my own collection that has some of the spine missing. Maybe that book's dust jacket was somehow inferior to the others!

Perhaps it was a present for the late Ken Dodd from one of his Diddy men, Rob.:D

Rob, all the book photos in this thread are from the same collection currently available on ebay for £350.
Would be interested to see what serious collectors would consider a reasonable offer for this collection.

I think you are the only one who has done so so far.

Ah - I wondered if it was the same set...well, they look better from the spines than full frontal so to speak!!

I still think they are over-priced. I can't be 100% sure but I think I've seen full sets in much better condition for around £250. So over £300 seems steep to me, unless of course they were all first editions etc.

I wouldn't consider buying that set for £300 Pete. Some of those dustwrappers are really tatty. If I wanted them, which I don't, I would offer £100 max. There appears to be only two 1st edition in there from what I can see in the descriptions.
