That's a super bargain buy Pete, even the postage is a real mega deal as even by Hermes I'm sure all those books would be more than three pounds to send! They look lovely, I do much prefer those illustrated spines to the white spine editions.

I agree - I'm really not a fan of the white spine editions. My 'complete set of Famous Fives' all have the illustrated spines from the 1950's and 60's - but I do have a separate collection of plain spine Famous Fives, which I've just happened to collect because they came in bundles of books I've bought. I have 'Five On A Treasure Island' 'Five Go Off In A Caravan', 'Five On Kirrin Island Again' and 'Five Go Off To Camp' in the white spine versions. :-D

hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Well...mainly they're from the 1950's... ;-)

Yes - they are my favourite Famous Five covers and the spines all look great on a shelf! :D

One reason I've not bothered collecting the white spine editions is precisely because of the white spines. The front is lovely but those spines are terrible! They look and remind me of the homemade five minute white paper and felt pen job we used to do on video tape boxes to identify them quickly .
