Thank you sixret - I wonder if the text is unchanged? I would have thought so - except perhaps for monetary values.

I don't have that version, so I'm not sure.

However, I do have the later Centenary version - which is a collection of Secret Seven short stories (as well as the original version!) and I recommend it, especially if you can get it in hard back. The hardback is really nicely produced and has a dust wrapper, like all the Centenary 'first editions'.

It has great illustrations (though not the originals) and appears in 'The Secret Seven Short Story Collection' - which contains The secret of the Old mill, The humbug Adventure, Adventure on the Way Home, An Afternoon with the Secret Seven, Where Are the Secret Seven? and Hurry Secret Seven, Hurry! :-D

Looking at the original version and the Centenary edition, the text is the same - except for the money values, as you suggested. Rather than 'hard-earned shillings and half-crowns' the text now reads: 'hard-earned pounds and pennies'! ;-)

One interesting thing I noticed is that all the illustrations in the Centenary edition are based on Eileen Soper's originals, though by a different illustrator (Max Schindler)
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Both of you are right. The monetary values has been changed but the text remains the same. :D

Glad you mentioned this Rob, as I was tempted to buy the paperback on ebay - without realising I already have the story in the short stories version in the copy you posted above!
