Re: Enid Blyton's Birthday - Half Price Sale!
Thanks for the promotion, Sixrett! I agree its a bargain - I must be mad!!! Then again, some of them I bought way cheaper than I should have, so my prices reflect that. Some are books I have had ages and upgraded my own copies, and some are ones that came in job lots that I already have. The Galliano's Circus was part of a job lot, and is newer than the version I have - but very good condition. Hopefully people who have already bought a book at discount will return some day and treat themselves to another at full price!!
Thanks to all who have taken part so far.

I wonder if Francis is tempted to buy Circus of adventure...

Unfortunately, he's rarely on here these days, and so might not even know about it!

Re: Enid Blyton's Birthday - Half Price Sale!
I would have loved to get that one if I didn't have a good copy of it already — I didn't quite pay £50 for it, but certainly much closer to that than £13!!sixret wrote:Mr. Galliano's Circus 1949 edition with good dust jacket for £13 is a very good bargain! I overlooked it before. I nearly popped out my eyes! Trust me, it is a very good bargain!
Note: This dust jacket is a bit difficult to find in an online market(at least)! The common one is the red spine(1952 edition onwards).
If I were you, I would have increased the price. £50 or more is more like it.
Anyway, I've just bought two books I really wanted (only asking for a discount on one of them, don't worry! ) and Rob has very kindly offered to add free copy dustwrappers to both of them, which will make them even nicer. I wasn't expecting that!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thanks Courtenay! :-d Yes - I usually do add copy wrappers, if I happen to have the books in wrappers that I can scan! they are by no means professionally done, so I never charge extra for them - just makes the books look nice!Courtenay wrote:Anyway, I've just bought two books I really wanted (only asking for a discount on one of them, don't worry! ) and Rob has very kindly offered to add free copy dustwrappers to both of them, which will make them even nicer. Re: Enid Blyton's Birthday - Half Price Sale!
Well, it's a lovely unexpected bonus — I was thinking I wouldn't mind the dust jackets for those two books, but they're hard to find with original jackets in good condition and pretty expensive when they do have them, so copies will do just as well for me. I've bought Round the Year with Enid Blyton and Let's Garden, which I've wanted for a fair while and am looking forward very much to reading. It'll be fun to learn to do nature study with Enid, just like school children years ago — and I don't yet have a garden of my own, but I can dream on and learn from Enid in the meantime what I should plant and when! There's so much more charm to these books than there is in most modern books on nature and gardening, and of course the basic principles of both are still the same — it's just more fun to learn them Enid-style.
And I can now add that I've just received the 50% refund for one of my books, so I can assure other potential buyers here that Rob is as good as his word!

Re: Enid Blyton's Birthday - Half Price Sale!
I had both those books when I was about 11 or 12 and am sure that is what kindled my interest in gardening as well as giving me a good idea of the natural world. I still have "Round the Year.." with a torn dustwrapper but "Let's Garden" seems to have disappeared. If the name Enid blyton was on the cover, then the book just had to be read!Courtenay wrote:Round the Year with Enid Blyton and Let's Garden, which I've wanted for a fair while and am looking forward very much to reading. Well, Enid has sections on growing plants in pots, and window boxes etc, so maybe you could have a little garden indoors!Courtenay wrote: I don't yet have a garden of my own, but I can dream on and learn from Enid in the meantime what I should plant and when!
Glad the discount has arrived. Everyone has been sent a half refund now, and all your books are wrapped and ready to post!

Re: Enid Blyton's Birthday - Half Price Sale!
Its gone very quiet now so I presume everyone who wants a book has participated.
Thank you to the people who did so!
I sold five books so far, which isn't quite as many as I anticipated, but I guess it depends on a lot of factors, such as having a paypal account, having books people want to buy, etc etc.
Seven hours left and then you've missed your opportunity!

Pete, Courtenay, John (Lucky Star) and Anita.

Courtenay went for the two she mentioned (she bought one at normal price) - Round the Year and Let's Garden
John (Lucky Star) has Five Get Into A Fix - first edition with wrapper
Anita got the Folk of the Faraway Tree with wrapper.

Thanks, Rob.
Who would have thought that Anita, of all people who bought Folk of The Faraway Tree. I didn’t expect that.
