Never heard of those... the style of the title makes it look like Enid was a crummy horror fiction writer.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

They look quite exciting. I noticed the first one issue 5 was £1, but also it was £1.50 at the end of the page, maybe he has two one in better condition!

I like the drawn cover for Issue 1. Editor Tim Quinn wrote a fascinating article about Mystery and Suspense for Journal 4. My Journals aren't easy to access at the moment, but if I remember correctly Tim wanted a plainer title that would give a clear impression of the contents - something like The Enid Blyton Magazine. He also preferred an earlier draft version of the cover for Issue 1, which I think showed a ship in a storm (to go with the Five on a Treasure Island extract). It was a dark, thrilling, menacing illustration. However, he was overruled by other members of the team. They said the magazine cover needed to be nice and bright to compete with other magazines in the shops - though it should still be mysterious! There wasn't sufficient promotion and as time went on the price went up and the quality deteriorated, so sadly the magazine folded after only 10 issues.
