Re: Banned and Offensive...but hoping to cash in on the fact
The Dirty Little Boy only seems to appear in this volume and issue 244 of Sunny Stories,so unless it has appeared in the Journal it's the only chance I will have of reading it.Super Vintage Daily Mail Annual for Boys and Girls from the 1950's. Including rare Enid Blyton Story called the Dirty Little Boy,Hunt, Hillary and Tensing Everest photos, Royal Interest Photos, Tea Party for Mother recipes, things to do on Wet Days and loads of other fun stuff!
Hardback Annual with Dust Wrapper with a fab illustration of two 1950's children in a flying saucer type spaceship.
Please note there is a very Non Politically Correct Article by Rodston illustrated (worse than gollies) that may cause offence.
Apart from this the rest of the book is a lovely trip down memory lane and a little time capsule of the 1950s!
At £2.69 inc delivery it wasn't too expensive to buy this 'offensive' book either.
Obviously with a write up and warning as good as that I had to buy it at once.

I have that book! I never noticed anything offensive in it! Damn! I'll have to go and have a look for it!

Great pictures Tony.Many thanks.
Now we can study the cover in more closer scientific & anatomical detail:
It looks like the boy has his hands on each individual nob that controls the craft.
With just two simple joysticks (green & red) it doesn't look too difficult to pilot either.
I wonder which story within the annual the front cover is depicting - hope it's one we're permitted to read.

Thanks for that, Tony! Certainly not very PC!
Pete - I think the cover picture might be illustrating the story 'The Man From Venus' which is about two children who meet a man in a spaceship!!

Thank's Rob.
I've scanned and scanned the contents page minutely, but only one or two of the titles seem like even remotely possible contenders.

The Man from Venues is The Man From Venus - which may be the cover illustration - although the children involved don't actually go in the spacecraft.

The Daily Mail 1954 cover reminds me a little of the 1967 Gordon Mellor cover for The Golden magazine.

Re: Banned and Offensive...but hoping to cash in on the fact
For the benefit of those of us who don't have the Daily Mail Annual and are now intrigued, can anyone give us a quick précis of the Very Non Politically Correct article by Rodston??

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

If the other chaps don't respond,or feel it's too offensive,I'll scan the article when it arrives for you.
Funny how we're drawn to the things we are told not to peruse!
In all the hoo hah I've completely forgotten the reason I bought the book was to have access to the story of The Dirty Little Boy.

Re: Banned and Offensive...but hoping to cash in on the fact
Oh, I don't necessarily want to read the whole thing (or to see it essentially re-published online). I'm just wondering what in particular is offensive about it!! I'm guessing it's something racial, but I may be wrong...

Re: Banned and Offensive...but hoping to cash in on the fact
If I put it back on ebay when it arrives and describe it as very, very, very offensive I might double my money.
