Famous Five paperback only £28.99
Anyone fancy a fairly modern paperback version of Five Get Into Trouble? It's 'acceptable' only and a bargain at £28.99

"Only". They apparently haven't noticed that someone else is selling the exact same version in "good" condition for £2.50... I wouldn't even pay that much for it. Horrid '80s cover.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Agreed - awful cover!
I'm amazed what some people on eBay are charging for what I consider to be 'just' paperbacks! There's also a Betty Maxey cover of 'Five Get Into Trouble' for £40.99! It's described as a fair reading copy'!! Are they serious?!

Perhaps they've seen that sellers like Stella & Rose can flog off early editions for hundreds of pounds, so they figure a later paperback must still be worth 30 or 40 quid. Or maybe they've heard from Pete and realise there are some really, really big fans of Betty Maxey out there...

What a peculiar listing altogether. The seller describes the book as dating from 1968 but has used a picture of a 1987 cover accompanied by the words "Stock image - actual cover may differ"!Robert Houghton wrote:Anyone fancy a fairly modern paperback version of Five Get Into Trouble? Look at what Anne is wearing for a cycling holiday - brilliant white trousers and high-heeled shoes!

That IS weird — I didn't notice that. The £2.50 one I linked to before, from a different seller, has exactly the same cover photo — if you zoom in on it, you can see exactly the same fine creases near the upper spine on both of them! Who actually has this particular copy, and why can't the other seller show a photo of the one they have in stock?Anita Bensoussane wrote:What a peculiar listing altogether. Yes, and her hair looks like something straight out of Degrassi Junior High! (Canadian teenage school drama series from the 1980s — I'm not sure if it was shown here.)Anita Bensoussane wrote:Look at what Anne is wearing for a cycling holiday - brilliant white trousers and high-heeled shoes!

I noticed the same seller has a few more copies of Five Get Into Trouble available:

Nice to see the Betty Maxey version commands the highest price..

Re: Famous Five paperback only £28.99
How come the old hardcovers (again, with just one generic photo used for the lot of them) are being sold for far less than some of the more recent paperbacks?? This Sunrise Books is a bit weird...
Here's their website, by the way: http://www.sunrisebookshop.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Definitely is a bit weird with their pricing. Perhaps a monkey does some of them while the owner is scouring charity shops for more stuff to sell!

I notice Malxcolm Saville's books are considerably more expensive.
