What publisher are your Malcolm Saville books Matthew?
"You're so sharp you'll cut yourself one day!" Hunchy said going to the door
"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Hi, Pippa-Stef,
The books are all Armada paperbacks apart from three that are published by Merlin Books.

Re: Enid Blyton, Just William and Malcolm Saville
Hallo, Matthew - haven't heard from you for years - and all of a sudden I see you posting here. I thought you'd disappeared off the face of the earth. I hope you've been well. (It's true that I've largely disappeared a number of times over the last several years too.)
Would Malcolm Saville appeal to anyone who likes Enid Blyton? Are they nice and exciting and mysterious? When I was younger and read adventure books by authors other than Enid Blyton, most of the time I found that other authors' books simply weren't nearly so exciting, and seemed tame by comparison.
I've never read anything by Saville. In the past, I've seen his books occasionally in bookshops, but, flipping through hem, somehow they just didn't quite seem to appeal to me - I really couldn't say why, though.
I know that really isn't a good way to choose books. Still, sometimes you *have* to judge books by their covers, if you have nothing else to go on (as I didn't at the time).
Regards, Michael.

Re: Enid Blyton, Just William and Malcolm Saville
Hello, Michael! It is nice to see you around here. I am well, thanks! How are you? I am currently studying at the University of Edinburgh and enjoying myself a lot, although I miss my home, Cornwall, quite a bit. I have disappeared somewhat with regards to Enid Blyton, but I do resurface every now and then.
I think there are others here, such as Anita, who are better qualified to answer your questions about Malcolm Saville. But I would certainly recommend them. I didn't find them as enthralling or addictive as Enid Blyton's adventure books, but they were thumping good reads, all of them.

Yes, they were. I enjoyed them just as much as an EB book, as a child - and especially liked the way the characters developed into puberty. The Gay Dolphin Adventure was, I think, my favourite story.Matthew Roberts wrote:I didn't find them as enthralling or addictive as Enid Blyton's adventure books, but they were thumping good reads, all of them.
As for disappearing, I have wondered if our friend Michael could be a Time Lord. He does go away for periods, and I have wondered if perhaps he is fighting a battle in some distant (in time, as well as distance) galaxy.

I also love that aspect of the books, that it felt like the characters aged and developed romantic attachments, etc.Moonraker wrote:and especially liked the way the characters developed into puberty. The Gay Dolphin Adventure was, I think, my favourite story.
The Gay Dolphin was very much my favourite, too.

This reminds me of a list of books I once saw "For Sale". They were in fact lent to the person concerned!

Sorry, Sue; were you asking me? I don't have any MS books, a friend of mine lent his books to the person concerned, who then put them up for sale!
