I thought that this stuff had been left to Seven Stories in Newcastle? :?

Sounds very interesting!
This is a Green Knight Book which means that it is a book by one of the most popular authors of all.

I saw that Andrew Hartley was online earlier this morning. I had hoped that he could tell us more, such as whose behalf the sale is being made, and what (if anything) is going to Seven Stories (or other museum).

I just searched the forums but couldn't find anything about Seven Stories in Newcastle, or whether Gillian Baverstock had donated any Blyton-related things to them. Where did you hear about that, Viv?

I have no idea of what is in this collection, but should it be something that the Heritage Lottery Fund should look at? This is, as far as I know, the last major Blyton collection, and as such the last chance to get anything that could purport to be a Blyton museum.

Not sure why this isn't being talked about more. As Viv says it is a very important sale of Enid Blyton books, memoribilia and manuscripts. What Eric Rogers didn't get rid of on Enid's death is being sold to the highest bidder!

I suspect people aren't saying anything in the public forum because they intend to make a bid or two next week (one doesn't have to travel to Ilkley to put in a bid, it can be done by email). And why make it less likely that one's own bid would succeed by stimulating interest on the forums!

A very comprehensive catalogue is available to view online. I haven't got the link to hand but basically you Google 'Hartleys auctioneers'. The manuscripts are the most important thing from an 'academic' point of view. Here are some of the unique and irreplaceable objects that are for sale:

Five Have a Wonderful Time
Five on a Hike Together
Five go to Mystery Moor
Five have plenty of Fun

The Mystery of Holly Lane
The Mystery of Tally Ho Cottage

Last Term at Malory Towers

Look Out Secret Seven
The Ragamuffin Mystery

Cheer Up Little Noddy

The River of Adventure

I forget how many manuscripts the society has, and I don't have my Journal to hand, so could someone remind me? Thanks. Are there any other manuscripts that are available for the public to look at? If not, a possible idea would be for Society members to club together and buy a manuscript or two. Although the estimates are £300-£500 for each, I suspect they'll go for a lot more. Say £1000 each. That's one hundred members stumping up £10 each. I'd be up for that. I suppose the deal would have to be that the manuscript would be scanned by some kind soul, maybe the same kind soul who has done so much scanning on all our behalfs already, and all the pages made available to EBS members in much the same way as certain material is now, ie through the password system.

My own vote would be for one or both of The Mysteries to be bought by the society. For all we know Enid has drawn a map of Peterswood on the back of one of the pages. That would save Aurelien and co a lot of trouble!

Not much time to discuss this and come to a decision so I'm posting without further ado.

very mouth watering collection!

I particularly like the idea of owning an EB book with an inscription such as 'To Gillian with love from Mummy' etc! 8)http://www.andrewhartleyfinearts.co.uk/ ... ooks%20Etc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nigel posted about this forthcoming auction in the thread, Enid in the Press. I wrote on this thread (the last posting) that I rang up the auctioneers and they are going to publish on their website just how much everything goes for on either the Thursday (day after auction, or Friday).

Thank you Julie! :D

I was wondering how we might find out what everything went for...wish I could buy something, but reading about it is the next best thing! 8)

In the description of the mystery books I don't see an indication of a map of peterswood.

Unfortunately my lottery ticket didn't even match one number, so I won't be bidding on anything
Julie, hope you had better luck with yours. Thanks for letting us know the final bids will be available afterwards, not sure I'll want to look though. :?

Good luck to anyone on the forums who is planning to bid.

I have bid on one of the lots, but I am sure it will fetch much, much more than my offer! Mind you, if I do win it, I'm not sure I can really afford to pay! :|
