Yes, the politics continues over on another forum. I won't say too much more as I don't want to be seen as advertising it!Rob Houghton wrote:Completely agree, Number 6 - spot on. Couldn't agree more in fact.
Now I guess we'd better leave politics to other sites!

I agree with all of the above, that's the last I'll say politics wise also!

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
Thanks for the link, Nigel - yes - I find this all very worrying personally, and I'm not even Muslim of brown skinned or 'of colour' as they say! To me, its the start of a worrying downward spiral towards something we have not really experienced since the early 1940's. Agreed, Rob. I think Trump an...

Re: What Are You Doing Now?
I've just watched EastEnders. I'm not usually one for watching soaps but it was dreadful to see the bus crash into the market and railway bridge

Re: Favourite Five Find-Outers book
I never once felt sorry for any of the adults in these circumstances, but was always on the side of the children. Me too, this was even more the case in the books in which Ern appeared in, as Mr Goon was especially rotten to him and I've always hated the way he forced Ern to spill the beans about t...

Re: Famous Five 'Adult' Books!
Exactly. As someone who works in Journalism, I'd say that bad/negative news tends to generate more interest because it's more contentious in its nature and gets people talking. I suppose it's just human instinct. That said, good news can do just as well for us depending on the subject (charity fundr...

Re: Famous Five 'Adult' Books!
True, but on the flip side, it won't do any harm getting the message out there about how bad these books are and how they don't represent Enid and her work whatsoever.John Pickup wrote:If they're that bad, why do we keep talking about them?
Let's talk about our fabulous Journal instead.

Re: Favourite Five Find-Outers book
I think too many people are looking at this with adult eyes, rather than as how children would see it! Yes, that's a good point. You do read things very differently as an adult. The potential consequences of the children placing false clues would never have come into my head as a child reading the ...

Re: Favourite Five Find-Outers book
It's not just you at all, Deej — I feel exactly the same way about it! I haven't voted yet, as I haven't yet read the entire series, so I don't think it's fair for me to pick a favourite yet when perhaps I haven't discovered my real favourite! :D Mind you, so far my favourite is probably Dis...

Re: Favourite Five Find-Outers book
Looking at the poll, I'm quite surprised to see Invisible Thief leading the way for favourite Find Outers book. Personally, I always found the mystery a bit predictable and obvious as to who the thief was, but maybe that's just me!

Re: Famous Five 'Adult' Books!
Me too, and I agree. As I've said, it's not even inordinately crass (although I could live without the regular swearing and toilet humour) — it's just so bland and lifeless and without any of the qualities that make genuine Enid Blyton books so readable. If they'd managed to do a decent imit...

Re: Famous Five 'Adult' Books!
I'm not sure I'll be able to read the whole book the way it's going though! I'd agree that the writing is very lame and nothing like how Enid would write it. The front cover and illustrations aren't too bad though!

Re: Famous Five 'Adult' Books!
Indeed Julie, I wasn't too impressed! I started reading it last night and already there's tension between George and Julian, who are taking different sides in the referendum debate. Anne and Dick are apparently playing peacemakers and are neutral. It's come to the point where George has threat...
