In July straight after my daughter broke up for the holidays. We went for a very traditional holiday by the sea.

Re: Book to read aloud to Reception children?
My daughter had Faraway Tree read to her in reception and enjoyed it. How about SNowball the Pony? The chapters aren't too long and it is ideal for younger children. There are some others in the same vein - The Birthday Kitten, The Missing Necklace and The Very Big Secret although the last one hasn'...

Re: Say something to the person below you!
Ludo - there is huge satisfaction to be had sending someone back to the start just as they were about to make it to safety. Extra satisfaction if they have a double piece!

Re: Derailed topics?
Just to demonstrate how it can be done............ Back on topic  I don't mind things going off topic if the content of the original post has been addressed first - does that make sense? I also agree with Keith about the one word posts - the only place for them is the Games board where they are...

Re: Gwen, Jo & Daphne (Malory Towers)
Wasn't part of the reason for Jo being expelled because her parents (her father especially) had such different veiws to MT? I think there was something said about it when he came to pick Jo up. Wasn't Daphne only getting a small amount of pocket money from an old aunt or something? Maybe it was deci...

Re: The New Famous Five
[Daily Mail:] One of the episodes is called The Case Of The Thief That Drinks From The Toilet and another The Case Of The Impolite, Snarly Thing. Goodness gracious! What would Julian say?! Anita Impolite, Snarly Thing?! So that's where my ex-husband-to-be went before he got chance to sign t...

Re: Five Find-Outers editions
[I hope to start a family soon-ish. I'd like to buy my kids nice new editions of EB's books for themselves - I don't expect them to appreciate daddy's dusty old, yellowing books the way I do!] My daughter (aged 6) would sell her soul to the Devil if it meant she could touch my early editions - she ...

Re: The New Famous Five
I think I'll sit on the fence for this one because I have never seen any Blyton stories on television  Personally, I always prefer a book to a programme - the exception is Branagh's Henry V - which is why I haven't watched the FF or anything. Have I read it right - this new cartoon features th...

Re: As Good as a Boy or Better Than a Girl?
This morning Rosie quoted me a bit from a book about the Ideal Home Exhibition from 1955 which advised women "always remember that your husband's conversation is more important than your own".   It is so easy to forget how much society changed in Blyton's lifetime, a...

Many thanks. Along the same lines, Katie is currently enjoying the Book of ...
