Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?

I haven't posted on here for quite a long time (for various reasons), but I thought some of you might be interested in my most recent Blyton purchases... https://i.postimg.cc/HJgjmZkg/20191029-174716.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8FckN2gx/20191029-174709.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/bDHqTpxD/20191029-174704....

Re: Magic Faraway Tree set for cinema?

I'm not that attached to the look of the characters in any of the various illustrations in the books. Even as a child they never matched the images created by my imagination and I doubt the new film or films will either. I do hope though it all leads to a critical reappraisal of Blyton and elevate h...

Re: Betty Maxey's Internals - In Colour!

Oh, I like that! I like a bit of Marty Robbins too, so I'll have to try and track down a copy. Thanks Anita (and thanks also to Betty Maxey's number one fan for posting it in the first place... )

Re: Betty Maxey's Internals - In Colour!

I quite like these. They remind me very much of the bright and vibrant colours in a lot of pop art, which I have a fondness for, but then I also like Betty Maxwell's originals anyway which obviously makes my taste in art a bit suspect...

Re: Magic Faraway Tree set for cinema?

Sadly I think the time has passed for us to see a truly faithful adaptation of the "Faraway Tree" books. I've always thought the best we could have hoped for was an animated series by somebody like Oliver Postage or Cosgrove and Hall back in the 1970's. Some ting in the style of "Nogg...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!

My bookcases were (like John's) bought from Argos but they were then subsequently hacked and beaten into the various shapes I needed to fit the various nooks and crannys I had to force them into. In fact I think I mentioned on here before how I had to build a new bookcase to house my copy of "T...

Re: Monthly Quiz

Hmmm... I got 18 which I'm quite pleased with as I thought this month's quiz was particularly fiendish. On the other hand I was very slow, so my position in the table was quite feeble. On the third hand I have been celebrating Wales' success in the Euro Championships, and may have partaken of one or...

Re: The Play's The Thing 1927 - £15.48 (inc del)

I think I've mentioned this before, but when I bought my edition of "The Play's The Thing" I had to build a special bookcase for it too.

Re: New Weekly Serial

Okay, here we go again.... The remarks are totally insensitive towards a persons feeling also. Purposely meaning to be hurtful I thought!! I can't speak for Rob but I'm thoroughly offended! 8) First off apologies to Julie. My original post was not meant to be hurtful in any way. Just a message of su...

Re: New Weekly Serial

Gosh, that sounds a bit harsh on both Julie and Rob. Does it? I didn't think it did. It certainly wasn't meant to be. :? So at the risk of digging myself into an even deeper hole I'll try to clarify what I meant. It may come as a surprise to some of you here but Enid Blyton is one of my favourite a...

Re: Eileen Soper illustrations copyright

Whist I don't think 'The Famous Five' are very well suited to Tarot cards, (especially given th difficulties cutting a deal with the copyright holders), I think her fantasy characters might work quite well on the other hand. Moon-Face, The Angry Pixie, Chinky, Dame Snap, etc. would be more in keepin...

Re: New Weekly Serial

No, I don't think so Julie. :? After all there's plenty of praise for your sequels in this very thread, and for the other authors who have contributed 'continuation' stories to the Society website too. It's just that I've personally not been that enthused by them. But The Famous Five! On A Narrowboa...
