Re: Gollywogs/Golliwogs

I've had a gollywog sighting - Arnotts biscuits are selling little gollywog shaped biscuits here in Australia. They look very cute and taste delicious!, but go by the name of Scallywags.
.....and yes they are chocolate flavoured.

Re: What will happen to your books in the future?

Hopefully my future children (if any) will be book lovers too. My collection is often joked about in my family. My brother will tell you that the fire evacuation procedure in my house is to first save (my) books and then worry about the people! I remember once telling my mother, that in the case of ...

Re: Mischief at St Rollo's

I read Mischief a St Rollo's and although I enjoyed it, I wished it was longer. I guess I we've been spoilt having had such a wonderfully long journey with Enid's other Boarding school series - it was hard for me to just be settled with having one look into St Rollo's - and such a short look at that!

Re: Just how fat was 'Fatty'?

“And we didn’t say anything at first, just to puzzle you, as we thought,”said Pip. “We followed this boy out of the station and he was frightfully fed up with us.” “And then we called to him, and said ‘Fatty!’”said Bets. “And you see, he was fat - and he swung round and said he fought people who ca...

Re: My addiction to the Famous Five

I'm a fast reader, and could never manage all 21 in one weekend. I do remember that when I was 12, I read all 6 Mallory Towers books in one day. I remember I sat in the same spot the whole day (on the floor, leaning against the leg of the couch) which makes me laugh now - I wonder why I opted for th...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!

I should really make a note of what books I have, so that I don't keep duplicating copies I already have. But it's just getting around to doing it! :P 8) I took a photocopy of the list of Enid Blyton Books from one of the Appendices at the back of Barbara Stoney's biography, and highlight each book...

Re: Drina Books

Yes, I've read the first seven of the series. My friend has the complete set and lent a few of them to me. I have never been into ballet (or dancing of any kind) so was a bit dubious, but as soon as I started I was hooked. They are really terrific! Jean Estoril (also known as Mabel Esther Allan) als...

Re: Julian, Dick and Anne's parents

Was it in the last book that Julian, Dick and Anne's parents have moved closer to Kirrin, and now they are only a bike ride away from George? Perhaps Julian, Dick and Anne's parents became tired of never seeing their children, and felt that they would have a better chance of seeing them if they were...

Re: Encouraging Children to read Enid

As a teacher, I'm in the perfect position to help this crusade to encourage children to read Enid Blyton. I teach 5/6 year olds and this term I have been reading The Adventures of the Wishing Chair . All of my kids (boys included) love it and are always begging me to read it. Some of the girls have ...

Re: 10 Books to Save...

I'm sure I could replace all my books from ebay - but if it happened that my collection was the last remaining in the world, then the ten I would save would be: The Boy Next Door Five Go to Smugglers Top Five on a Hike Together The Folk of the Faraway Tree Definately one of the Find-Outers books - t...

Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD?

I've just finished watching the whole lot! They are terrific!!!! :D I can't decide which is my favourite episode. I do love Dick though - he is wonderful! You can certainly tell that the kids really enjoyed themselves whilst making the series. That little scene when Julian and Dick were mucking abou...

Re: Uncle Quentin - Humane Moments????

What I love about Quentin is the way he has been used to add humour. I always think of him standing on the marsh in his pyjamas at the end of Smugglers Top and it makes me laugh. He is so wrapped up in his work, it is amazing that he actually had time (and by that I mean time to step away from his w...

Re: Who Do You Think Is The Bravest Girl?

I can't decide who to choose. Probably Mary-Lou if she were there. I was thinking Anne, but to me a truely brave person would be someone who was terrified at the time and bravely overcame that terror to solve/help the problem. Anne, although is more afraid then someone like George, is never in my mi...

Re: Malcolm Saville's - The Lone Pine Club

I haven't read a Blyton for a while because I've been very busy reading the Lone Pine Books. I am enjoying them very much. Penny and Jon are my favourite characters and I love the way in which the landscapes are described - makes me keen for a visit to these areas. I still think the Famous Five are ...
