Re: Peter Archer's Secret Series Cover Artwork

Also, that "Put 'Em RIghts" cover doesn't look like Peter's handiwork either. His style in the 60s seemed to mirror Stewart, Brook and Gernat, but really flourished into a distinctive, textured approach by 1970.

Re: Peter Archer's Secret Series Cover Artwork

Peter himself confirmed that he did the Secret series covers from the early 1970s, but I didn't manage to ask him about the 1978 covers before he died. As someone who has studied Peter's style for some years now, I don't believe that the '78 paperbacks were illustrated by Peter. The contemporaneous ...

Compare to the contemporaneous artwork Miralles executed for the Dana Girls series, one of which even features his signature:

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?

Tony, Thanks for the feedback on the Armada Treasury gift set: given the sheer number of these boxed sets that have surfaced over the years, I'm not surprised you wisely decided to deign them outside the remit of the 'Cave' bibliography. Still, feel free to reproduce my scans wherever or whenever yo...

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?

Recently I was lucky enough to become the owner of this Armada boxed set from the early 1980s:

I can't see any entry in the 'Cave', so I'm guessing that this is a new discovery of sorts? :?:

Re: Mary Gernat

Mary Gernat's final artwork for Rilloby Fair cropped up on eBay some years ago; I'm still kicking myself for not bidding higher than the measly £20 I tabled. http://postimg.org/gallery/p75fb2h0/39fbe60c/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The seller commented that there were no...

Re: Peter Archer bibliography.

In February this year, I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon with Peter and his wife Karen. http://s7.postimg.org/3vmmp1zt7/11050869_435271266630127_4003605547683397049_n.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It was a resounding success: Peter and Karen were wonderful host...

Re: The Three Investigators

Hi everyone, A good friend of mine is doing a college course that requires he produce a questionnaire to collect data, then write a report on the data he's collected. He decided to base his survey on the Three Investigators, so even if you've only read one book in the series, please quickly fill out...

Re: Where exactly was Green Hedges?

Just to nail down the exact position of Green Hedges in relation to the present-day site, I overlaid a map from the early 1970s onto the most recent aerial photograph from Google Maps: http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/2346/greenhedgeslocation.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return f...

German Famous Five Audiobooks

I've just stumbled across some covers of the more recent German Famous Five audio books, and I think they're rather good: #90 — Save the Honey Bees! http://www.spielzeugbox.de/out/pictures/master/product/1/88697230902.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; #92 — On The Island o...

Re: Mr Galliano's Circus - Armada 1963 paperback edition.

Here's the list of questions that I've sent to Jon; I'll let you all know when (or if) we get a response! What were your favourite Armada covers, stories and authors? Did you ever meet any of the illustrators, such as Peter Archer, Charles Stewart or Dorothy Brook The “School Library Journal” articl...
