Re: Which is the most scary book?

The Castle of Adventure scared me as a very young child, especially the walking suits of armour - now it's my favourite Blyton book and has been for many years :D

Re: Facsimile dustjackets.

Hi all facsimile dustjackets are just a quick buck for a seller, copied from my Ebay "me" page....... My other real gripe is photocopied or "lasercopied" dustwrappers, oh nooooooooo!! yukkkk. Seriously - they devalue the collectors book market, are worthless and - unless they hav...

I thought I recognised it!!

Nice to see you're now a dog too, Tony :D

Re: Adoption in Blyton books

interesting thread this one. Adoption at the time (1940's 1950's) came under the Adoption of Children Acts 1926 to 1949. There were very few rules governing adoption but they varied according to whether the subject was a newborn infant or an older child. The adoptive parents had to be aged 25+ and b...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!

I can't help myself sometimes. If I come across an old children's book somewhere at a reasonable price I feel I have to 'rescue' it, even if it's not something I'd normally collect. I can't agree more Great to see someone with exactly the same mindset as me. I have done this so many times over the ...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!

Glad you like them Katharine - Yes, I do have some Chalet series 1sts - they're on the bookcase with Noddy sitting on the top, 2nd shelf down. I must admit Brent-Dyer isn't one of the authors I particularly like so I have never been very active in trying to find them. Angela Brazil would be my favou...

Re: My Enid Blyton Bookcase!

Hi all Here are a few of mine - not all Blyton and in a bit of a mess. I must do some rearranging I have noticed! I also collect school and adventure stories from the 20's and 30's although, like the Blytons, they are becoming very difficult to find these days and I expect my "wants" list ...

Re: Blyton themed dreams

I have had Adventure series dreams for years and still get the occasional one. They are always either finding amazing routes through a castle as in the Circus Of Adventure...sliding pictures, spiral staircases, stone passages etc or a dream around suits of armour that come to life as in Castle of Ad...

Enid Blyton on Radio 4 next month

Hi All just a bit of news that was emailed to me today.... Dame Helen Mirren and Joanna Lumley are to summon up the "jolly hockey sticks" era for BBC Radio 4 with a season of classic girls' school tales. The stories from the 1920s, 30s and 40s include Enid Blyton's The Cheat and will be br...

Re: Enid Blyton Teaching Prints

Hi there. I agree with everyone that the Nature Plates are fantastic. Anyone know what happened to the originals? The Nature plates 1 - 60 follow the Nature Readers - 2 stories per book as already mentioned. Enid also produced "Stories and notes to Enid Blyton Nature Plates" a green cloth ...
