Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

Re. the cobblers thing - To me it just means 'rubbish' or 'nonsense' and I've never been aware of any offensive connotation. :? I've often used the word myself... Personally I didn't read Zar Quon's response as abrupt (though I can understand it coming across that way) - when I read it in my...

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

A load of old cobblers is quite simply a load of old rubbish. Yes, I know the rhyming slang context, but it ain't the one used here. & it ain't the one most people use either. I'm more than acquainted with proper swear words, & happily use them in real life & indeed on other fora where t...

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

Well, the poster to whom I replied doesn't appear to have taken the hump.

I, however, will at this accusation of my being unpleasant. Or abrupt. Or any such rubbish.

I also stand by my assertion that any true collector wil take the best they can get on the day. & upgrade later.

Sheesh.

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

I got the '94 facsimile of Island of Adventure recently(ish) which has something like "To darling Charlie love from Granny & Grandad" in it.

Whoever Charlie might be, they're an ungrateful blighter.

(N.B - It might not be Charlie)

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

I've seen collectors at book fairs turn their noses up at books without wrappers. Ah. Now there's a word for those types. It's not one that I can use on this forum tho. When I say a true collector I mean someone who only wants a 1st edition with an unclipped dustwrapper. For me and most of us, that...

Cobblers.
John Pickup wrote:And if it was price-clipped he wouldn't be too happy either.
Possihbly. But I've got several clipped books.& in every instance they're better than the copy I didn't have.

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

There's no way that Smugglers Top DJ is anything but "poor". There is, "very poor"! In that condition I wouldn't even bother if it was free with £6 postage. True. There's also "Flippin' Atrocious" These books were printed in huge numbers and they are not all that scarc...

Nah, I'm going to have to disagree there. There's no way that Smugglers Top DJ is anything but "poor".

Re: Ebay Rip Off Merchant!

Which they further have the unmitigated gall to charge 6 quid postage on. & not even signed for. If I were to be spending three & a half grand on a book, I'd want it personally hand-delivered on a red velvet cushion.

Re: Five Go To Rehab

Didn't know that, not having Virgin Media. Surprising. Is Channel 4 the same?
