Re: Pronunciations

In the Audible version on 'The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage' Fatty, on introducing himself to the others pronounces his name 'Trott-ville'. Yes, I know. And I still think it's wrong. 😆 As an audiobook reader of some 20+ years myself, I know how things have changed radically in recent years in terms...

Re: Pronunciations

I have always pronounced Fatty's surname, Trotteville as Trotter-vil However, Duncan McLaren pronounced it as Trot-vil . How do you pronounce it? Definitely TROT- uh -ville with three syllables. The middle one being a neutral ə - like the a in comm a or a fraid. I’m just listening to some audiobook...

Haha! Perhaps not! It's from an animated tv advert involving Russian meerkats, Wolfgang!

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon

I hope he does so Julie, I really found it hard to warm to him in this book, other than his support for Bets. He really does turn into the hero of the books, never fear, ledzep. When I first read the series as a child, I wanted to *be* Fatty, he's so likeable... Generous, talented, creative, imagin...

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon

Ha! Yes I thought about her, Wolfgang... She's distinctly unlikeable, isn't she?

My sense is, Fat cook = good cook; skinny cook = bad cook.

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon

I'm afraid I haven't time to join in the Readathon but I'm following the discussion with great interest and I just had to say how much I laughed at that comment about the cooks. Priceless! Thanks Anita! Always struck me as funny  Thanks also for all your very kind comments, Eddie, ledzep, Nig...

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon

I wonder if Enid always intended him to be the "great detective" he turned into or whether his character developed in her mind as she wrote the subsequent books. That's a very good point. Darkness into Light and all that  I always assumed the live in staff would act as babysitters t...

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon

Hello chums I’m just back from an unexpected jaunt into hospital [eughhh], that kept me there longer than I thought this time, so many apologies for the very delayed post. Anyhoo, onto the BOOK! I enjoyed it; it’s by no means my favourite, but it sets the scene nicely for the relationships and adven...

Helo Everyone Just to let you know it's been a bit of a 'monster' two weeks workwise; late nights and early mornings and not much time to myself in between... I've nearly finished reading TMOTBC, and will add my comments later on today, then perhaps we could move on to the Disappearing Cat wh...

Re: Five Find-Outers Series Readathon, anyone?

Oh lovely, welcome along Poppy, Daisy, ledzep93 and Colette and everyone else who's already popping in and out  Shall those of us who want to read start tomorrow, then? Read for a weekish; in the interim, comment as and when, for those who've already read TMOTBC and are twiddling their thumbs?...
