Or, just a thought, if you have family in the UK you could have Abebooks/Ebay sellers send the books to them and have them post them more cheaply to Hong Kong?

Gosh I missed all this kerfuffle when I looked in earlier today!

First of all let me offer my sincerest apologies to nina. I've just looked back at my original post and as Wolfgang said I really should have worded it better. I can see that what I intended to be slightly tongue in cheek comments could have been construed as patronising and insulting. I've also looked back at your original post nina, and realise I've misunderstood what you meant in the first place thus adding insult to injury.

Where you said "some sellers are charging up to £20 per book" I thought you were referring to the combined price for both book and postage and packing whereas you meant they are charging up to £20 solely for packaging which I agree is a little steep. Having said that though many sellers on e-bay routinely charge 4 or 5 pounds (or more) just for posting throughout mainland UK and if you are resorting to specialist booksellers I can certainly see them charging more. Obviously if you are buying a number of books from the same seller you would expect them to combine postage, but sadly such flexibilty isn't always an option.

You're clearly unwilling or unable to pay such a premium, and who can blame you? Students are hardly renowned for their great wealth and high disposable income! So asking the wonderful folk of the Enid Blyton Society for assistance is a natural second option. Unfortunately this is where I made my second error in comprehension.

When you wrote "I am more than happy to cover postage", I mistakenly thought you were hoping for some of us to send you our unwanted duplicate copies of the books you require, just for the cost of mailing them to Hong Kong. I didn't think this was a particularly unrealistic expectation actually, because as a long time member you may have been on the recieving end of such beneficence in the past, as indeed I myself have. I just thought you were being a bit cheeky asking for it.

But of course you weren't asking for it! You were clearly willing to pay a fair rate for both books and postage. No wonder you took umbrage. My reaction would almost certainly have been the same (or worse!) if the roles had been reversed. So once again, I profusely apologise.

However if you ignore the regrettable sarcasm and misplaced condescension in my original post what I said still stands. The books you are searching for tend to be the scarcer ones of the series, you may need to be patient before you find one at a price you're happy with, the forum members here are very helpful and generous, and most sincerely of all, the best of luck with your search and your PhD. I'm sure I'm not alone in looking forward to reading your thesis when it's completed.

Oh, and thanks to everyone who stepped up to defend my honour in my absence. It was much appreciated

Thanks everyone :D I had considered getting them sent to someone in my family and asking them to post them from the uk, but I know full well my family would just refuse to take money for postage and the last thing I want is for anyone to be out of pocket! I will keep it in mind for a last resort though :) Entirely my own fault too, my mum came to visit last month and if I'd pulled my finger out in time I could have asked her to bring them in person... hindsight is a beautiful thing!
Thank you for your apology Walter, I hope you also accept mine and it shall just be water under the bridge :D
I'm sure that over the course of the next three years I'll be looking for lots of insights on sections of my thesis, and it is so lovely and reassuring to know there is a whole community of Blyton lovers here!

I actually think I might well have a copy of Mystery Moor someplace as I remember replacing it with a true first last year. I can't remember if I had a first/somethingth impression or a second edition though. I'll have a look though, I may have put it away in the loft.

Thanks to a handy and out of date excel file I now know it was a seventh impression. I'll just have to find it now...

Thank you Fiona, that would be fantastic if you do have it somewhere. If you do manage to locate it, just pm me the total price of postage and how much you want for the book and I'll arrange payment with you :D

Hi Nina,

Thanks for your pm.

To post 3 books to Hong Kong airmail is less than GBP10(from website). Estimate delivery 4-10 days. This is the cheapest, quickest and safest. But I will go to the post office this evening to get the accurate postage cost. :D

Hi Nina,

After packing, the total weight increases slightly. The postage cost via airmail(signed and tracked) to Hong Kong for those 3 hardbacks books is GBP11. Estimate delivery is 4-10 days. :D
