I'd happily sell my paperback version, like the one above, for £200, Rajah! :-D

Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I did think so, lol! I'm not sure that anyone on here, if they happened to have an original edition of At Seaside Cottage, would be willing to part with it! Its drastically overpriced, in my opinion, for such a very thin inconsequential book!!

It always shocks me a bit that At Seaside Cottage is so expensive. I know it has relevance as being the first book about Janet and Peter, but there's no mystery to solve, and none of the other Secret Seven members, so one can only conclude that its been made much of by collectors, who must go around selling the book to other collectors, who then sell it to other collectors! The general public would surely not be aware of its supposed significance! I presume only one printing of it was ever done, which makes it fairly rare.

I agree with what you say Rob that there is no logic for the inflated asking price for the hardback of At Seaside
Cottage.I think it is down to what I would call ''Collector Obsession'' a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder As
a collector I understand it.By the way was your offer of the paperback for 200GBP made ''tongue-in-cheek'' I have seen it offered on Amazon and other places for as little as 4-95.

Definitely tongue-in-cheek! I was just replying to what you said about paying 'top dollar' ;-)

Gosh, we've got that Green Knight paperback somewhere back at my parents' house... we could be sitting on a fortune here.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Yep. Well, for all I know, we might have got rid of that one at some stage, but I'll see if I can find it, just out of wanting to re-read it — I know there were plenty of stories in that one that I liked, apart from At Seaside Cottage itself (which I found tremendously exciting as a child, because there's a beach a few miles along the coast from us with caves in the cliffs and you really can get trapped there by the rising tide, just like in the story!). If you're just looking to read "the original" Peter and Janet story and aren't concerned about having the first edition and original illustrations, the later version is well worth having for that AND a really lovely selection of other short stories too. But perhaps not for some of those, er, more extravagant prices out there.

I'm so glad you got it Rajah :D . That's the second one I've seen now at that price, seems to be the going rate! I don't think you'd get a pristine copy, of the ones I've seen they all look in the same state especially on the spine.
