Oh, neither would I. It isn't a replacement for writing a comment, just an extra way of showing you approve/appreciate/have read somebody's work. There are many instances where this could be used where time is not available for a post. Of course, on the Journal thread it is interesting to read people's thoughts and comments on the new edition. I wouldn't want to see 20 "Likes" alongside the first post!

I totally agreed with your recent post on the Golliwog thread, Anita. I could have written a post along the lines of, "Oh, I agree 100% with what you have written, Anita. I couldn't have put it better myself." On the other hand, I could have just clicked on "Like". As it was, I did neither.

The like button might be a good idea, but in my opinion when I see a 'like' button I really don't bother to read the topic and I just press it mechanically. That's why I prefer writing comments to show what I think of a certain aspect, topic, ect.

That seems rather daft to me, with the greatest respect! In any case, you can still write comments - it's not compulsory!

maybe just pressing the 'like' button is a sign of what younger people do these days on social media (no offence to any younger people!) but I certainly only click like if I like something - not just automatically! I actually think it would be a good idea...but I don't think it would ever be used instead of writing an indepth reply. Most of us on here like to air our opinions - and just tapping 'like' would never suffice!

I've used 'like' on sites but if I have something to say about a particular post then I do a regular shortish response referencing it. I use like as "Agree with" and read 'the x,y,z and 51 others like' as just that people expressing support of a post. On the other hand my posts may appear young!

I don't like 'like' buttons. A forum I used to be on had no such option and posts used to get many comments and replies. They had a like' button added after requests from some members and the number of comments and replies went down drastically, all it consisted of was 'X liked this post, Y liked this post and 3 others' under virtually every comment . Not much to be able to post from or reply to and it didn't look very tidy either.

We've never had one here, never needed it before and I personally don't see a need for one now. It'll only dumb down the proceedings with people hitting "like" instead of posting an actual comment.

I agree, if it replaced commenting and interaction, it would be a bad thing.
