hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

What I want to know is: is that Anita or Tony in the animation??
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Looks like Anita to me (not that I've ever seen her dressed like that, I hasten to add!!)

I wouldn't mind having that figure - and if we're living on carrots and lettuces maybe I'll get my wish! Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind having that whip either!

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Well, it was quite surprising to see Moonraker, in another thread here, basically stating that things I had said, about Enid, (not mentioning me by name) were "clearly a view we know isn't true". I don't understand who this mysterious "we" is that is being invoked (a royal plural, perhaps?), but I am obviously not a part of this "we".

People are getting upset when we try to look at Enid Blyton with the approaches used by serious modern literary criticism ("criticism" here does not always mean "saying bad things", although sometimes it can). And I am not always serious, I participate in the silliness here as well. (I am also a Doctor Who fan). But sometimes folks have also found my silliness to be too serious.

I think we do need to be silly and have fun, but I think there should also be a place for a serious look at these works, a serious look which may force us to look at some of the less appealing aspects of Enid Blyton.

Surely, since this is the internet, the people who are not interested in the silliness can just not participate in the silly threads, and the people who are not interested in the seriousness can just not participate in the serious threads, without anyone announcing that someone has said something that is "clearly a view we know isn't true".

If you're talking about the 'Sexist and racist elements?' thread, then yes, it does have a place and has literally had a place on the forums for over two and a half years - along with a number of other threads which criticise various aspects of Enid Blyton. The recent objection was to posts which repeated points that had only just been discussed in detail.

We often have serious discussions of Enid Blyton's life and work. Take a look for instance at our numerous 'Readathon' topics ('The Books'), many of the threads about Enid Blyton's life ('The Author'), 'Enid Blyton's Weekly Letters in Teachers World' ('Admin Announcements') and the comments on Journal articles ('The Enid Blyton Society Journal'). There are loads more such discussions, but I've picked a handful of examples from across the different sections to give an idea of the wide range of subjects.
