Society Member tag

Just spotted that EBS members have a snazzy new 'Society Member' tag in blue on their posts, but I don't have one. Is it an oversight, or will it magically appear when I submit this post? I do hope it is not down to me to do something technical.

Edit: Well it didn't magically appear, so it looks as though I shall have to do without one.

I've just put one on for you, Kate. :D We've been adding them on request, or letting members add their own.

You have now, Dot! :D

Any Society member can add the 'Society Member' tag to their signature if they like, by copying and pasting the following code. I've used curly brackets after the first b and the FF - otherwise the code will take effect in this post. After copying and pasting, those two curly brackets should be changed to square brackets.

The thought does occur to me that might it smack of bragging a bit to have that tag? (I imagine that being a Society member has a bit of prestige on the forum; but some may feel it looks a bit boastful to parade that fact every time you post.)
Another thought that occurs to me is: if you can add the code yourself, what would prevent non-members falsely adding the code to get a bit of unearned prestige, at least amongst forum members who don't know who is and isn't a Society member? I assume this would not be acceptable - so would it be the case that they *could*, but, upon discovery, it would be removed again by a moderator?

Regards, Michael.

I can assure you that Anita or Tony would spot that at once, and be right on the case! Rather than bragging, I see it as a way of advertising Society membership. There's nothing to brag about in being a member - anyone can join!

Oh well - I've just done it. I would be very hesitant normally to do anything that even slightly smacked of bragging; but it seems that it has nothing but very favourable connotations here, provided you really are a member, which I am; so I thought I might as well.

Regards, Michael.

I don't think it seems like bragging. As wonderful as it is, membership isn't at all exclusive. As Nigel said, anyone can (and should) join. :D

I wouldn't have said it was bragging, either!

And if you're not a member, why would you really want to bother about putting down the fact that you are!! :?

I don't think it's bragging, but I think I can see what Michael means. I did hesitate briefly, as my concern was that new non-members might feel they couldn't contribute. However, on the other hand, maybe people might see the signature and find out what they need to do to become members.
