Can't post topics or send messages
Can't post topics or send messages
Hi, when I'm browsing the forum on my ipod touch I can't post new topics or send private messages.
Anyone know how to remedy this??

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
I hope someone can help but if not you'll need to contact our site administrator, Keith Robinson, who deals with the technical side of things. If you go to "Members" (top left of the board) and click on "K", he's the third person on the list (assuming you're able to email him!)

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
I've not tried to start any topics on my iphone but I can't even find my way to my control panel or PMS on the mobile version of the site. I also can't remember if there's a way to view the regular forums on my phone.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
Not long ago Keith created a version of the website aimed specifically at mobile phone users. I don't have a mobile phone which can access the internet so I've never tried it, but I'll see if I can find the thread discussing that topic and post a link to it.
Ah - here it is but I don't know whether it contains anything of any help:

Yes, I just found that myself and read it. It didn't see anything useful on this issue, though I discovered there is a mobile version of the main site.

It doesn't happen to me but Ice_Gemz has sent me 3 messages and I haven't got any of them.

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
I don't think you can create a new topic or see your messages through the ipod. You can go onto the main website and visit the cave or other items listed on the left and it looks the same as on a PC. When you go to the forums though it automatically sends you into the mobile version and you are a little more restricted.
I personally just use an ipod or tablet to view new posts as tapping on a screen is never easy and combined with predictive text I just give up and go on the PC.
You can set the PM system in the forums (on PC only) to send you an alert to your email address. Contained in the email is a link to the message on the forums and I have sucessfully viewed a PM on an ipod this way. I am not sure if there is a way to do it whilst you are just in the forums. I'm sure that you could reply to the private message but it was a while since I did this so I'm not 100% sure.
Hope this is of some help though I'm sure Keith knows the system better than me. The above is just a few of the observations I've made whilst using the forums on an ipod/tablet.

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
Yes, the mobile version I created was a "quick fix" (which took ages!) to allow people to read new posts while on the move, but while it's possible to reply to threads, there are limitations with a compact version like this. It's sort of a fudge. I actually didn't know you couldn't create new threads until just now!
I've livened up the "New Topic" button, so see how that works.
As for messages and PMs... you'll just have to use a computer for now. The PHPBB board creators are working on a mobile version of their system, and when that's ready I might give it a go. Whether it'll be better or worse than my fudged version I don't know...

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
Thanks for the into Keith. I wonder though, is there a way to over-ride the automatic redirection to the mobile version of the forums? I ask because when I used to browse via my phone I could access PMS etc then.

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
Oh!! I just got to my PMs from the mobile site! The only thing is I've no idea how I did it. I was navigating to the board index and hit something, and ended on a page marked 'front page user control panel'. There was a link to my PMs and my options etc.
Now to try to reproduce the mistake!

Re: Can't post topics or send messages
Currently on an android tablet (ie not an Apple product) and I am using Google chrome. If you click on the three squares on the righthand corner there is a drop down menu, click on request desktop site and you are no longer on the mobile version of the site. Don' t think it will work on apple products though.
This is only on the latest version of Google chrome.
