My dear Grandmama used to say "Damnation seize it" which was considered the very height of daring in the 50s, I occasionally use it to this day when life gets awkward...Moonraker wrote:When really cross, I have been known to say, "Botheration be blowed!" I was not allowed to say "Damn" as a child, neither were words which were alternative words for other swear words - for example, "ruddy" which was another way of saying "bloody". Blasphemy was outlawed too. Having said that, it taught me that to use copious amounts of swearing was not necessary. It's not really necessary to use swear words in a normal conversation really. They say it shows that the person who swears a lot has limited words in their vocablary!
