And no Pete, I haven't watched the film. It's the book for me - I seldom go to the cinema, and my telly went belly-up nearly six months ago. I don't miss it, somehow.

I am very impressed with make-up artists and costume designers for films. You would never guess this was the same guy who was in the Harry Potter films! At least I wouldn't have.

Depends on whether this is supposed to be Alec Guinness as George Smiley, or Gary Oldman! :D I haven't seen Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. If it is Gary Oldman, then he was Sirius Black in Harry Potter. Mind you, even if this is Alec Guinness, I can't recognize him!

Alec Guinness was the master of disguise. In the 1949 film, Kind Hearts and Coronets, he played eight very different parts. A truly superb film.

They certainly did, at least in productions of Shakespeare, though they didn't always get along.

You're right, Fatty. They worked together as early as 1938 when Alec Guinness play the Fool to Laurence Olivier's Lear in Shakespeare's King Lear.

Alec Guinness was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Special Award in 1989.

Olivier was knighted in 1947; Guinness in 1959.

I saw Alec Guiness in Chichester, he walked past me in a car park and looked exactly like the George Smiley picture above - even the hat. He seemed a quiet little old man that you wouldn't look twice at. I later saw him on stage at the Chichester Theatre and he just dominated the stage with a really powerful performance and it was difficult to imagine that it was the same person that I had seen in the car park.

Lets back on subject.

I am not sure that you should be telling the owner of this website to get back onto subject, Abi!

So Moderators are you going to say yes to my suggestion or no. I like fatty's one so I think that one should be put into action.

Smilies are readily available, as I hinted in my Google smilie! There is no need to have more on the board, and in any case, these are set by phpBB.
