Spoilers

Post by IceMaiden »

Can someone explain how to do spoilers in posts please? I've tried [spoiler] [/spoiler] with small letters, all capitals and just a capital S. None of them are working and I've run out of guesses :P .

If you're asking whether there's a way of blocking out text with a bar, which has to be scrolled over or clicked on to reveal what's written, I'm afraid I don't know how to do that. Whenever I feel that a spoiler warning might be of use, I simply put

** SPOILER WARNING ** .
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.

Yes, thanks Anita, that's what I meant, usually putting 'spoiler' in brackets hides whatever is written between them. As it wasn't working I thought there was a button or something I'd missed but obviously not!

I'm guessing this particular forum software doesn't have a "spoiler hiding" option, but it sounds like a great idea if there's ever a way to add it. :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

BBCode is set by the forum host, and this forum does not support this particular piece of code. It is best to do this:

Plot spoiler below

.

.

.
Now you can reveal the details!

Or just write the spoiler, lol! ;-)

I would certainly use the spoiler hider if there was one...although I have a problem with actually defining a 'spoiler'. For example, when writing about 'The Enchanted Wood' surely talking about the children finding the Faraway Tree, meeting characters like Moonface and Silky, discovering there are lands at the top of the tree and that they often move on, using the Slippery-Slip, eating toffee shocks, etc, are all spoilers? :? Surely telling people that the Wishing Chair flies is a spoiler? Even mentioning that George keeps Timmy hidden in Five On A Treasure Island is a spoiler, as is the fact that George owns an island... :? :?
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)
